This was filmed when Ghibli started using 3D in their films... Mononoke, spirited away , Howl's castle. They were showing him a system that let creatures move with any amount or arrangement of limbs. They just happened to have zombies as the character models rather than insects or spirits or whatever the old man would have preferred
