Woop-woop, that's the sound of da police
Just came back from a screening. It's so good, real classic spoof. As an example there's a joke early on that feels like classic Naked Gun, where they're talking about a car accident and the CSI guy goes "Drunk?" to which Drebbin replies "Only a little. Just enough to wake me up"

>>213303590Of course not, but his acting, and the movie itself, feels very genuine, like they really cared about nailing the type of comedy the series is known for.
>>213294041 (OP)For me? It's
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SR010PQkJVc
>>213303590No, not even close. I actually like Liam Neeson a fair amount and think he can be pretty funny, but unfortunately the entire movie just comes off as soulless because he isn't making the role his own, he's doing a Leslie Nielson impression the entire time. I think it's also unfortunate this movie probably won't be a flop because studios will take the wrong messages away from this and keep trying to reboot popular older franchise with different actors instead of recognizing that certain actors star power or understanding of some roles were the entire foundation their series stood upon.
>>213295614Rotton Tomatoes is an aggregator and only counts to positive score if someone liked the movie. They can like the movie and rate it as a 5/10

>the crane is a literal crane game
>”May I ask why?”
>the never-ending coffee passing, even while he’s driving
>Drebin narrowing down his list to shooting unarmed people in the back down to 50, and down to one because it was a white guy
>the windshield gag
>running over the same cyclist twice
>that whole Fergalicious fight scene where he constantly unchambers and chambers the magazines, easily the best joke in the movie (I kind of wish there was a joke where Drebin brings actual magazines instead of gun magazines)
>Dave fucking Bautista randomly reading lines while Liam’s in the toilet
>the fight scene ending because the evil corporate guy literally can’t fight
But for me, some of the jokes are boring, and some jokes give way too much time to process. What I liked about the originals was that you never had time to process the joke and they moved right on.
Liam Neeson’s also good, but it is impossible to get close to Leslie Nielsen’s brilliance
>>213298241MacFarlane was only a producer. It was written and directed by one of the Lonely Island guys.

>>213294041 (OP)Saw it today. Enjoyed it a lot but the last 20 minutes or so were the weakest part since the pace of jokes slowed as it became more focused on its meh action movie climax. But it did make me laugh a lot. The snowman bit was the only big joke setpiece that really didnt land for me.

My cinema was full of people and it was uproarious
My only complaint is that it didn't use this song which elevated the trailer and would have been perfect in the movie and maybe even used as a joke like diagetically
>>213306641>The snowman bit was the only big joke setpiece that really didnt land for me.You can really tell that bit was Seth McFarlane's major contribution to the movie
>>213304044That was my biggest gripe with the trailers. Everything looked so sterile, artificial and - for lack of a better world - digital. Could that be the result of conscious artistic decisions? In theory yes, but I feel they just didn't give a fuck.
>>213296940>>213298091>>213300369One of my favorites was when he was trapped in the car and clippy pops up and the entire theater groans cause you know, freaking clippy how's he gonna not be helpful whatsoever but instead Frank just asks him to unlock the door and he does and just like that gets out. Caught me so offguard it was so good
The bit where Drebin has to escape the automated car by breaking the windshield open, only for the vehicle to then run through multiple objects during his escape, one of which being a spare windshield was my favorite part of the movie.

>>213307113Sounds better than I expected. The trailer was such garbage.
I saw it today and enjoyed it. It's not as good as the original, but what the Hell, it's still the funniest thing I've seen in theaters in a long time. Liam Neeson does a great job. Lots of good gags. The windshield one was probably my favorite, but I laughed the most at the interrogation of the henchman. Also very fond of the police chief's husband constantly being asleep next to her.
I really hope this ushers in more good comedies.

There's a scene in the middle of the movie that tells a perfect story from start to finish in about 5 minutes and is amazing.
It probably helped that the theater was pretty full and everyone was laughing.

Like the part about mans laughter, in the trailer Casey Morgan says you mean "manslaughter"? And frank replies must have been a a really funny joke
But in the movie it was even better because
says here you were charged for mans laughter, must have been a pretty funny joke. Then Morgan looks at him and says you mean manslaughter? And then shows frank making a confused face and then looking closer at the file and still having a stupid look on his face still. Just very nicely executed
