Iron Man retiring would make less sense because he doesn't even need to be there to get involved, and can operate some of his suits remotely. On the other hand, the Avengers need his technological help on a regular basis. His sacrifice made more sense.
I did find it kinda neat that in one Venom comic set in the future, him and Tony were the only living beings, and Tony was just a digital consciousness without a body.

I would argue Yidsney made larger errors before and after Endgame than with Endgame itself. Antman and Wasp was a terrible lead-up. Trying to shoehorn Captain Marvel's release just before it and her into the story soured what should have been a monolithic release. Letting Sony follow up with a bad Spider-man that awkwardly tried to make the Thanos snap make sense in a real-world context.

They should have blown off his arm and put him in a coma for 10 years.
