Marvel should just admit that the Fantastic Four arenโt interesting. Their villains are though.
>>213304763 (OP)Probably the most fare criticism I've read about the F4. I wish they would just lean into Doom as a stand alone character and make a movie without the F4 fluff.
Crazy that there are already 5 actors who played Sue and Reed
>>213304763 (OP)captain america is boring. they made a bunch of movies with him
>>213304763 (OP)People loved The Incredibles.
>>213305168And only the second one was any good.
>>213304763 (OP)They're not necessarily supposed to be except The Thing. He's supposed to be really funny etc. He's even the one who's supposed to have an intereating romantic relationship and even before the tragic one who can't change back etc. The Thing is supposed to carry the very heavy load of being intereating. Even more stuff about him too.
The Human Torch is basically just to supposed to have interearing powers in thay he's supposed to be pretty powerful. And that actually eventually carried over to The Invisible Woman. She ultimately became one of the most powerful people in the universe. Just basically as she orbreally the writers explored and developed her powers. Then Reed was so supposed to be interesting in even just the way he talks. And The Thing would make fun of him. In addition to literally constantly inventing interesting things etc.
>>213304763 (OP)The thing is a tragic figure but i dont care about the rest
This film give me faith that I can get hot white girl pregnant with Mexican baby
>>213304763 (OP)I thought they were fine in the new one. It would be cool if they actually took a dark route with one of them. The Maker, Malice, Human Torch dying or whatever...
>>213304763 (OP)>Their villains are though.Kevin Fagge managed to make Silver Surfer and Galactus uninteresting too though. And he'll do the same with Dr. Doom.
>>213305960>dark routecringe normie. find a personality already, faggot
>>213305960Vanessa Kirby said she wanted to do Malice just for the costume but she's kinda fugly so I'm not looking forward to it.
>>213305988>cringe normieyou are in a capeslop thread anon
>>213304820They should have billed it as a Fantastic Four movie but made Doom the protagonist without telling anyone.
>>213306202you tell em, little brown boy! win those internet fights! fucking lawl!
>>213304763 (OP)pretty much. I can't think of a villain that mogs their heroes in being iconic, compelling, and cooler than Doom does the F4. Even the Joker and Batman are more or less just as popular as each other.
>>213306323F4 are the villains though.
>>213305168>>213304763 (OP)Even Iron Man was boring in the comics prior to him getting reconned into having RDJ's personality.
>>213306293That could have been a cool twist on the formula
>>213305981how did they not learn from the 2 films from 20 years ago? I know that Galactus and his herald canonically just drop in to fuck shit up but it didn't work then in two movies, and certainly doesn't work now with only one
>>2133063781. RDJ gets to act his ass off and have fun
2. Everybody hates the F4 so they would be natural and very compelling villains
3. I do like the dimension hopping cliffhanger ending though. Doom could have found his way into the "main" universe as explanation for him feeling like an outsider and against everyone.
>>213306388Right, because everyone takes all their lessons on morality from the F4 in 2025.
>>213306352Iron Man is a cool enough concept though, a guy that builds a suit that makes him like a human fighter jet. Cool. The F4 powers are all kind of lame and don't translate well to the visual medium aside from The Human Torch.
Stretching is hard to make work in live action, The Thing can be compelling but he has the issue of being overshadowed by the Hulk, both in terms of his powerset and his conflict of being turned into a monster, Invisible Woman's powers don't look good in visual format for obvious reasons which they tried to fix in the new movie by making light refraction cause a rainbow over her forcefields so it looks like she's shooting everyone with a pride parade whenever she uses it.
>>213306469Subversion is blue haired gay tier shit. This entire generation of pop culture has been one long subversion of faggottry, girlbosses and making the traditional hero look like a chump. Your subversion is actually par for the course for those wanting to court the "modern audience".
I don't really know how they are in the comics much but this movie was not interested in characterizing this cast at all. But I do think they're interesting
>reed - man of science forced to contend with making tough decisions/fatherhood, living with guilt and genius, has to "stretch" his way of thinking
>torch - extremely powerful but immature, can basically grow him into any character you want
>thing - tragic figure forced to confront and adapt to himself, humanity and society in his new state, jew
>sue - new mom, leader/politician willing to sacrifice herself, etc. butts heads/foil with reed
The concept of them being the PLANET's protectors falls so flat too, with basically zero supporting cast. Scenes that should really work are filled with shitty flat dialogue. Nobody even really gets a huge "spectacle" superpower moment. The movie is really short too, I just don't understand why they put it out this way.
Like the scene where rock man is walking down an alley and 2 extras walk by him and say "we got families too" and rock man just says some line "it's bad out there dudes." And then you have a tiny blurry crowd downstairs and a boring scene of them barely talking about this shit. the whole PLANET should be busting down their fucking door. Not gotten out of the way with one boring speech.
>>213306842>with basically zero supporting castWhich was exactly the right thing to do with a movie built around a superhero team of multiple characters. If you go the other way you get a vastly inferior movie like Gunn's over crowded Superman.
>>213304763 (OP)Galactus isn't interesting either. No background, no real motivation, nothing. Honestly just a cool design. The silver surfer has an interesting background but he really just exists so that they can defeat galactus.
>>213306929NTA but nah it was an issue. It might not have been as much of a problem if they were on our Earth, but now their world ends up feeling empty and lifeless. Another Anon in another thread nailed it when they said sci-fi movies often have desert world and ice world and this just felt like "F4" world.
Nobody has any agency aside from the Fantastic 4, and they all just go along with their ridiculous scheme to teleport the planet without any question or pushback, as if they're all background NPCs in a video game. Made it impossible to care about this world, and there's zero tension because we all know they won't kill a F4 member.
>>213306929the ideal way to do it would be like the raimi Spider-Man movies or something. There's a cast of supporting characters and even the New Yorkers get scenes where they have wildly differing views on Spider-Man, and it all culminates in them banding together to save Spider-Man from the Green Goblin because he's been saving them.
>>213307074Galactus has never been chatty. Like I can't imagine. He's literally a force of nature hard wired into the universe same as electromagnetism or gravity all because he got accidentally sucked into the big bang.
>>213307204And that makes him boring.
>>213304763 (OP)johnny storm is sexy hot.
>>213307139>Made it impossible to care about this worldThat's by design since it's going to be destroyed. It would be a little too grim otherwise.
>>213307204He is a badly written character which is meant to be carry by the heroes who are meant to stop him but the fantastic four in the movie also sucked ass.
F4 doesn't work in a movie format, they are kinda like The Quests. They are globe trotting adventurers with super powers.
>>213307139People are too jaded because of Disney's recent track record of steaming dog ass. This FF movie is objectively top or near the top of the middle tier of MCU movies.
>>213304763 (OP)I found the general optimism and positive relationship they have with the people of earth / people of New York really refreshing. The whole "world doesn't appreciate and vilifies superhero" thing has been so overdone that it felt nice to watch something that was genuinely not cynical. Even when they return from meeting with Galactus and share that they refused to give up their baby, the movie doesn't really dwell on the citizens of the world blaming them/calling them selfish etc. Just a genuinely positive view of the future and humanity's ability to work together to solve a problem, it felt very Star Trek tos to me.
>>213307396>but it wasn't destroyedI'm pretty sure it's going to be.
>>213304763 (OP)This looks even dorkier than the other super hero movies. Why do people watch this shit lol
>>213307540>I'm pretty sure it's going to be.In the same sense that all of the worlds are going to be, sure.
>>213307258>He is a badly written characterThis is a fundamental misunderstanding of what Galactus is. He's supposed to be the ultimate plot device. Saying Galactus is badly written is like saying the Infinity Stones are badly written.
>>213307562No. I'm talking in the next couple of movies that FF will appear in. (Either Avengers Doomsday or Secret Wars))
>>213304763 (OP)Why is there a mexican with a dirty sanchez in this movie????????????
>>213307548Normies leave. I'm not going try to explain retro aesthetics to you.
>>213307607The infinity stones are badly written.
>>213307461Tell me your wife has a boyfriend without telling me your wife has a boyfriend.
>>213307540more than likely it'll just be merged with the mainline in their new universe. either way, that's irrelevant to this movie at hand.
>>213307461It wasn't about people being cynical, it's that they set up this major conflict, try to act like the world is turning on them over it.. and then it's just people being kind of rude to them on the street and maybe 200 protesters outside their building, as if they're CEOs who are polluting the planet or something and not nearing Armageddon. They shouldn't have had Reed announce the conflict if they didn't want to follow through with it in any meaningful way.
>>213307746The world is going to be completely destroyed or at the very least overwritten in some kind of convergence. FF have a track record of fleeing their universes destruction and escaping to another universe.
>>213304763 (OP)Liked seeing Moleman but he should've had a posse of Moloids scrabbling around him
Moleman being openly racist against surface dwellers, ya love to see it
>>213307825yeah like I said, probably a convergence deal.
>>213307775>They shouldn't have had Reed announce the conflict if they didn't want to follow through with it in any meaningful way.I had given this some thought and concluded that Reed did the right thing by coming clean. It would have been WAY worse if Silver Surfer had been the one to tell Earth what the deal was.
she was the best part of the movie
>>213307948I have to admit that NOBODY saw that coming. Count me as front in line of those that were completely annoyed when they announce the gender swap. But then it actually worked.
>>213307948>>213308017I saw it. She's a great actress. Best in thay entire line up of shit and probably thr only person in the entire movie worth watching. Haven't seen it btw, Marvel is ass.
>>213307948She was nice to look at, but she was a pretty lame rendition of the Silver Surfer and the part where Johnny randomly exposition dumps her origin to the audience felt very tacked on.
