Well, that and by the mid 90s imitators had already flanderized the concept past any meaningful exploration of the genre.

Modern cyberpunk is hilarious to me because it's basically just the real world as is plus like holograms and everyone has cybernetics for some reason. In every other sense cyberpunk isn't really distinct from just reality anymore.

The one cybernetic that actually sounds dope as fuck and I would absolutely sacrifice my natural body parts for is cyber eyes. Imagine the shit you could do like being able to see the whole spectrum of colours, UV, infrared, etc. The night sky would look fucking wild. You could record shit real time and upload it on the internet. The porn alone would be insane. Surf the internet on your eyes while stuck in line somewhere. Install deepfake AI so you can literally walk around seeing how random hoes would look undressed. Watch movies and VR content from your literal eyes instead of having to wear a bulky ass headset.

Cyber eyes are the coolest fucking thing, and it pains me because I know if they ever become a real thing they will also be gay and corporatized as fuck where they own the things your eyes see and shit. I hate this gay ass planet.
