I'm a bit late of the game and I'm not the biggest Star Trek fan, but I have to wonder why Paramount wasted about a decade making these shows?

I never hear anyone talk about them, basically no one is watching them, they don't win any awards, and the fans hate them.
It's pretty obvious that Paramount is winding down their Star Trek stuff because all of these shows except Strange New Worlds have been cancelled and that show is probably ending after the upcoming season.

The only reason people use Paramount Plus is for Tyler Sheridan shows, yet Paramount kept making bad Star Trek shows no one watched, why?

Zoomers. They thought zoom zooms would just take whatever they shit out. So they filled it full of woke crap thinking they were talking to people just like them. Now you see zoomers actually liking much older stuff. Even they can tell how much better things used to be. Nu-trek is full of so much cringe they run the other way. Gen Z would rather enjoy TNG than fucking STD

Massive amounts of money was being poured into the streaming service grift and nu-Trek was Kurtzman's way of scamming Paramount out of it with the most Jewish, iron-clad contract he could squeeze out of the company. Something along the lines "if you fire me in the next 10 years I expect a 250million payout"

Apparently that piece of shit Kurtzman had some sort of deal with the last head of Paramount that let him continually rape Star Trek and keep his production company in business. Literally no one is watching this shit except for a handful of leftoid faggots and trannies. Even the low effort reaction channels on YouTube aren't watching it and instead watch the old shows and movies.

I was a hardcore Star Trek fan who watched everything from TNG onwards as it aired but even I couldn't stomach more than 2 seasons of STD and 1 season of Picard before checking out. They've literally raped the franchise to death at this point with the upcoming Academy series being their last gasp before Paramount gets takes over and they finally but it out of its misery.

Blue ocean strategy or something they call it. And it's not just Paramount. Outside of a lone fluke here and there it's been a colossal failure. Not only did they not meaningfully expand the audience, they lost a huge part of their original male fanbase in the process KEK

>Who the fuck was NuTrek for?

From left to right:
1. Racial and sexual minority Netflix viewers who might not have watched Star Trek before along with people who liked the JJ movies.
2. Old fans were promised a serious character study to make up for STD - but didn't have the writers and Patrick Stewart should never have editorial control after the TNG movies. Floundered but the final season was 'okay'.
3. Again, Old Fans liked the Pike episode of STD and it got a lot of praise for following a TOS style. This was supposed to be a return to classic Star Trek but had the same problems as 2 in the writers and by now most of the old fans have bailed so it's having to pander to STD viewers.
4. Adultswim viewers and people who liked Orville. Wasn't bad outside of a few bazinga moments but should have gone more realistic and straight faced on a Lower Deck life.
5. Children. Unironically I knew a few people who had kids that liked it and who now get to experiance their own letter-writing campaign after cancellation.

But Star Trek was ultimately ruined by being written into a corner sometime around Ent/JJ Trek along with the studio deliberately sabotaging the franchise around Ent, breaking up the rights and then playing too much timey-wimey stuff. Let's also be real that in 2020 the show is starting to have an untenable premise with the audience knowing too much science. For example we're already imaging planet's atmospheres and the Habitable Worlds Observatory will be able to either find life in the galaxy or it won't, that requires a change of science fiction going forwards either way.

SNW is interesting, because you get the sense they are trying with that one, and it's still just never anything more than okay.
It's inoffensive, but the stories aren't good, the original characters aren't good, and the aesthetics are still all wrong and it looks more like Mass Effect than Star Trek.
Goes to show that they just don't get it, and need a whole new creative team.
Lower Decks is actually the closest they have gotten to making a show that feels like Star Trek. The only problem there is it's a comedy that isn't very funny, so it still kind of fails to be "good", past the point of getting the aesthetics right, and having some fun references.

The death of sincerity is the death of verisimilitude. Stories like Star Trek need to treat themselves seriously. After all, if the writers don't treat the setting seriously and poke fun at the ridiculousness of it all, why would the audience treat it seriously? To be immersive, to convince you that this fictional world can exist, it has to treat itself seriously.
Lower Decks irreparably damaged Star Trek. It's a very devious type of cancer. By being meta, it forever destroyed the believability of Roddenberry's world. And now all other NuTrek slop shows follow in its footsteps. Strange New Worlds is a parody.

TL;DR Self-awareness is the death of immersion and believability. Star Trek is dead.

It wasn't for anyone.
It was an organized movement across multiple media fronts to infringe on hobbies and fandoms they thought to be bastions of male toxicity.
That's why video games were inundated with fat minority characters, why we got a woman and then a male Doctor, why franchises like LotR, Witcher, Halo and now Warhammer get pozzed.
Maybe it was an operation against what they perceived to be white domestic militia/terrorist or incel breeding grounds, which drastically backfired on them.

It's called suspension of disbelief. It's the building block of any fantasy story worth a damn. Star Trek was powerful because, for just a minute, you could imagine that this could be humanity in the future. Now it's dead because a bunch of millennial hacks decided to turn it into a joke.
Imagine if Lord of the Rings was adapted like this. Imagine if they had Aragorn point out how ridiculous it is that they're fighting a giant flaming eyeball.

I just finished binging season one. it's not bad, and I like the weaving in and out of ToS stories. And yeah they had to make the gorn more fearsome, somehow.. I was a bit surprised by the xenomorph thing though, like the series goes from a kids story in space to jumpscare horror in one... I'd prefer if they stuck to the more serious side of things, but it's clear they are trying to recreate TOS in many ways.

It's still not really Star Trek, but the show at least acknowledges that good Star Trek actually exists

NuTrek is the natural consequence of having nihilistic, jaded hack writers who have never served in the military writing what is, at its core, military science fiction combined with morality plays set in a big scary universe but with a Utopian ideal of humanity rising.

You can't have morality plays if you believe in moral relativism/hedonism.
You can't write good military fiction if you've never served or have zero interest in the military.
You can't have decent stories or settings if you view space as just one big ocean instead of the terrifying cosmic horror that it can be.
You can't write a transcendent humanity if you think humanity is shit, thus they mistake Roddenberry's Liberal Utopian vision as just Space Communism.

This is why all the villains and antagonistic elements of NuTrek are retarded. This is why all the protagonists are insufferable. This is why the doctrine of StarFleet no longer makes any sense. It's why the Federation behaves so schizophrenically in NuTrek.

But, the final nail in the coffin is that the new writers are just plain awful and create their stories by committee, instead of having a unified vision by keeping the writing team small and sticking to their principles (of which they have none). Every idea has to go through a bunch of woke idiots so as not to offend anyone. They couldn't write episodes like "Duet" or "The Measure of a Man" or even "The Best of Both Worlds" because they don't have the narrative skill and it would offend SOMEONE during the writer's meetings.

You'd need writers with over 100iq to pull that off.
Good luck finding them.

Roddenberry was a air force pilot, and a cop, he wrote a military show in a time post WWII where of American men went to war.
You really expect millennials who chant death to America to write Starfleet

I think you may be onto something with the veteran comment. The American military hasn't been a force for good since WWII, so of course anyone familiar with the military is jaded AF these days
