I watched these back to back recently and couldn't believe they came out in the same year. No Country For Old Men is distinctly an 00's slop flick while There Will Be Blood is a timeless masterpiece, feels like a 70's movie that time traveled. If you're just a pleb who likes dumb fun and think No Country For Old Men is better that's fine, but if you're captivated by it's themes and think it's some substantive deep movie you're a retarded midwit. There Will Be Blood is the better film and it's not even close

In terms of ageing well it's rarely the film that wins the Oscar that does so that probably bodes well for TWBB but almost twenty years on and both films still extremely well regarded and their reputations and standing haven't dropped at all. TWBB is clearly more highly regarded by critics, albeit marginally, but NCFOM seems to be more popular with the average movie-watcher.
There is no wrong opinion though and preferring one over the other doesn't make you a pleb.

TWBB is the Citizen Kane of film, but to be honest they both get patchier in the second half because of a left turn that has to veer off toward a point. They're at their most gripping when the story is in a purely mechanical state of chasing after something and explaining their unique means of chasing after it. I lament that Daniel's struggle to contend with Eli for the town's loyalty takes a back seat to unpredictable developments. I guess it's just the nature of oil drilling and he has basically won as soon as the first well proves.

TWBB is an actually interesting adaptation that works very well despite completely disregarding all the actual points of the book that's actually mostly about the intolerable and harmful behavior of semitic people.

NCFOM is an almost word-for-word adaptation that still manages to ruin the whole thing by turning the whole mood of the book upside down.
