>>213335627 (OP) I watched these back to back recently and couldn't believe they came out in the same year. No Country For Old Men is distinctly an 00's slop flick while There Will Be Blood is a timeless masterpiece, feels like a 70's movie that time traveled. If you're just a pleb who likes dumb fun and think No Country For Old Men is better that's fine, but if you're captivated by it's themes and think it's some substantive deep movie you're a retarded midwit. There Will Be Blood is the better film and it's not even close
>>213335751 yeah country has really dumb writing would have been kino if someone smart wrote the script or maybe the book was dumb from the beginning i didn't read that
>>213335892 >Im not the anon youre responded to I'm* you* >but you do sound like a snobby faggot that thinks hes smarter than everyone else. he's* I am smarter than you thoughbiet however
>>213335963 >thoughbiet not a word. argument invalidated

TWBB was more entertaining and kino no country for uncs was pretty good but kinda overrated desu and r*dditors acted like it was so deep (dude a random le criminal heckin kills people how do you explain that!!)
>>213335751 Based and truthpilled. No Country is more award baity, while Blood is a timeless epic.

>>213336280 In terms of ageing well it's rarely the film that wins the Oscar that does so that probably bodes well for TWBB but almost twenty years on and both films still extremely well regarded and their reputations and standing haven't dropped at all. TWBB is clearly more highly regarded by critics, albeit marginally, but NCFOM seems to be more popular with the average movie-watcher. There is no wrong opinion though and preferring one over the other doesn't make you a pleb.

>>213335751 >thinly veiled topical critique of George W Bush and oil wars is better than No Country For Old Men thats like saying South Park season 23 is better than True Detective season 1
TWBB is the Citizen Kane of film, but to be honest they both get patchier in the second half because of a left turn that has to veer off toward a point. They're at their most gripping when the story is in a purely mechanical state of chasing after something and explaining their unique means of chasing after it. I lament that Daniel's struggle to contend with Eli for the town's loyalty takes a back seat to unpredictable developments. I guess it's just the nature of oil drilling and he has basically won as soon as the first well proves.
>>213335627 (OP) They were both horrifically dull movies. Technically excellent though, just enough to send NPC's into a fit of dizzy spells as they trip over each other in a race to praise them the most. And Daniel Day is always brilliant.... But fuck me, they're boring movies.
TWBB is an actually interesting adaptation that works very well despite completely disregarding all the actual points of the book that's actually mostly about the intolerable and harmful behavior of semitic people.
NCFOM is an almost word-for-word adaptation that still manages to ruin the whole thing by turning the whole mood of the book upside down.
>>213337745 Oil! has big parts about jews systematically taking over the media and using their money to install their preferred leaders who will start wars where the only winners are the jews. Not really fiction though, just stating what actually happened.
Somehow when they adapted it they just cut all that out and turned it into "white man bad". Funny.
'Blood' is boring for today's audience cuz 99% of it is just a white dude does his white deeds Leave all the hassle and drama and it would be in "Films about industries / mining" category. There is no deep meaning in it other than the one you invent yourself

TWBB is easily the better film. Better directing, better acting, richer themes, more literary. NCFOM is basically just a well made thriller

>>213335627 (OP) Whats the mean of that title? No country for old men? Elders are not allowed in that country? Always got me confused
>>213341081 It very much is. It just cuts out most of the old man and turns the main guy from a desperate moron running away from the inevitable death into a generic action hero who suddenly just dies.

since 2007 i haven't genuinely enjoyed a single oscar nominated movie except a serious man, joker, and birdman.
>>213335627 (OP) There Will Be Blood is just a character study of a bad man starring a very good actor. It doesn't really offer that much to recommend itself.
