Aaron Taylor-Johnson has officially been cast as the next James Bond, Deadline has learned, marking a new era for the franchise under Amazon MGM Studios. The British actor, known for Kick-Ass, Nocturnal Animals, and Bullet Train, will succeed Daniel Craig, whose final outing as Bond was in 2021โs No Time to Die.
Amazon MGM Studios, which acquired full creative control of the Bond franchise earlier this year, is spearheading the reboot. The studio has tapped Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight to write the screenplay, with Dune director Denis Villeneuve attached to helm the project. Producers Amy Pascal (Spider-Man) and David Heyman (Harry Potter) are onboard, with Tanya Lapointe serving as executive producer.
Taylor-Johnson, 35, emerged as a frontrunner after a series of screen tests reportedly impressed the new creative team. โAaron brings a fresh intensity to Bond,โ said one executive familiar with the casting process. โHeโs got the charisma, the edge, and the emotional depth weโre looking for in this new chapter.โ
The upcoming film, currently untitled, is expected to begin production in 2026. While plot details remain under wraps, sources suggest a tonal shift toward espionage-driven storytelling and a more grounded aesthetic. The reboot will reintroduce Bond in a post-Craig continuity, aiming to redefine the character for a new generation.
Taylor-Johnsonโs recent appointment as a global ambassador for Omega, the luxury watch brand synonymous with Bond, further fueled speculation that now appears to have been well-founded.
Amazon MGM Studios is expected to hold a formal press event in London later this month. The filmโs release is tentatively eyed for 2028. Taylor-Johnson will become the seventh actor to portray James Bond since the franchise began in 1962.
