First, it's not a flop. It wasn't a massive success, but it did break even. If they hadn't overstuffed it with characters and kept the budget down, it would've been a hit.
Second, Corenswet is a "literally who" kind of actor, basically another Brandon Routh. A more notable lead would've helped. Cavill got people interested in MoS even though the material wasn't that good.
Third, audiences are simply over capeshit in general, and have been for a while. Unless the film has some major gimmick going for it, people really just don't care.

had nothing to do with overstuffing of characters. It's that it's capeshit at all.

It was a solid hit domestically, it won the Summer in the U.S. It just flopped internationally, because all capeshit is flopping internationally.

because he's too old, isn't a good actor, and at this point costs like 10 million+ per movie so it isn't even worth it.

it wouldn't have made a difference anyway. It's not as if Cavill is some massive draw, he's literally been in one successful movie and that was because of Cruise, not him, and every other project he's been attached to has been a disappointment or outright bomb. The movie underperformed internationally due to Asian markets being done with capeshit, it did fine, great, even in the U.S.

no he doesn't. he's completely carried by his looks. the guy is wooden as fuck. brad pitt and tom cruise have looks and charisma. Cavill just has the former, which is why everything he's attached to flops and he isn't some breakout star like them. the only reason he's liked at all by this point is because he catered to nerds by namedropping 40k and PC gaming so autists could say "he's literally me".

Audiences are over capeshit, also Superman has never worked well in movies. They've restarted this franchise how many times now and it's never worked?
Superman is well known because it's the base level concept and image of a classic super hero.
That doesn't mean it makes for good movies.

It's made $551.3 million so far, which is $51.3 million more than was needed for it to be considered a success in the eyes of the studio.

It wasn't a flop, but WB probably isn't too happy either. It only did solid numbers in America, which is fine, but it was carried hard by zillennials (as in +25 to mid 30s), which is not ideal for a franchise that is just starting. The main demographic of movie goers is still 18 to 24 and people progressively go less to the cinema as they grow older, so if the next DC movies can't appeal to younger people it will have trouble in a not so distant future. Same thing happened to Marvel. Of course it didn't help they have been making trash for ages and that it felt like their universe concluded satisfyingly after End Game, but also their audience just aged out. The difference is that when the MCU started it was huge with young people, so it could last for a while. But that same audience, now around 30, is the still the main audience watching capeshit and a bunch of them don't bother anymore. They haven't been able to appeal to young people, and neither really could Superman. I think the era of capeshit is just over. You need to be a funko pop collection man children to keep going to watch all these movies.

>A movie doesn't need to make a billion dollars to be a success.
It does when half the movies you release lose money. All the media industries work like this. You throw a bunch of shit to the wall. Most fail, but you get one or two mega hits that make up for all loses. This needed to make up for Joker 2 and The Flash. You're out of your mind if you think Warner weren't hopeful for at least 750 millions. They allocated to this a hyper aggressive marketing budget overseas, comparable to what they did for Barbie, which did twice as well. All hope for Warner at the moment is that it garnered enough good will that it will kickstart more successful follow ups.

Snyder was always a weird choice. MoS is a surprisingly solid movie despite all the baffling script choices, which were on Goyer and Nolan, to be fair. But when Snyder got more input in BvS and made a piece of garbage with some interesting moments/elements, it was time to let him go. Other than Eissenberg, the casting was fine. The foundations were solid enough. And they still had more than enough toom to pivot. They should have never green lightened JL, and then they should have never brougham Joss Wheddon in to finish it. And then they should have never tried to replace Cavill with a dark haired Supergirl from an alternative reality that isn't even the Supergirl everyone knows. And then Black Adam getting his own movie completely separated from Shazam. Terrible choice after terrible choice. I know Tomorrowland flopped hard, but if I had been a Warner suit, I would have brought Brad Bird to do MoS 2 after BvS failed. He would have found the right tone. They also needed a Batman written and directed by Affleck before doing JL.

This is what WB said about it
Ben Fritz: Yeah. People internally at Warner Bros. are saying, "This movie's got to gross at least $500 million," and I think that's the absolute minimum that they would consider a financial success. And just as importantly, they want people to feel good coming out of it and to like it. They'll really be looking for what are the ratings they're getting from fans? What's the online buzz? That's obviously a little bit harder to quantify, but that's really important to them.

The market of superheroes its dying no one is denying that and WB woke up too late but i can least see that WB is happy this movie will do 600m+
Bet they are happy of how good domestic Superman landed and even OW stabilized and did fine.

> Ben Fritz: Well, I've spoken to some people who have worked at DC over the years, and they've always said that as far as public perception of the DC brand, as goes Superman, so goes the brand. That's how people see DC. And if people feel good about Superman, then they feel good about DC. They feel bad about Superman, then they're sour to DC. So of course, Warner Bros. wants this movie to be a huge box office hit, but what they really need is for people to be excited about DC again.

Thatโ€™s always been objective of this movie. To rebuild Superman brand. And already done that domestically. Overseas is entirely different issues. All capeshit now is under preforming overseas and China is shutting it out

I've chucked what Zach Snyder DVDs I had in my library into the bin last week because of how utterly insufferable the Snyder fanbase has been over the years has made me retroactively hate Zach Snyder (and dislike Henry Cavill who doesn't deserve it at all).

I loved Dawn of the Dead in the theater and it was one of the first 3 films to be in my physical media library, with 300 soon following and then Watchmen; kino despite flaws joined later, and even Sucker Punch. So those four flicks I owned physical and liked, although by Sucker Punch the romantic magic with his films were over for me.

Now I generally dislike and avoid mainline capeshit so didn't bother to watch any of the "Snyderverse" era DC films despite Snyder's involvement. I did notice around this time a marked increase in brand "warfare" and fanboyism, but I generally disregarded it as an aspect of the comic brands with Marvel being more fluff for plebs and DC a little more patrician and serious.

But over the years I've noticed with calls for "the Snyder cut" and implications that Snyder was hamstrung from his artistic vision for those Snyderverse films were brought up with more defensive and vitriolic fanboy banter, and it gave a bad taste in my mouth. When I heard about Rebel Moon I was slightly hyped, because I did enjoy early Snyder films and the idea of a sci-fi action blockbuster that was a original IP was appealing. Unfortunately Rebel Moon was mediocre at best trash at worst, and the "Snyder cut" cries did not improve it.

Ridley Scott made kino back in the day then nothing but trash later, it's how it goes sometimes, no problem.

But then when the new DC reboots started popping up, the absolute shitflinging was annoying as shit, and it wasn't even Marvel vs DC, it was Snyderverse vs DC. How fucking insufferable can a fanbase get? The vitriol for anything not related to his version of capeshit has gotten out of hand and has made me retroactively hate Snyder. Worst fanbase in mass media.

It's behind MoS in total box office comparing them week to week and the gap is widening each day. MoS had a terrible second week drop, while this one did pretty well, but MoS had a surprise comeback during the third week, while this one started to decrease sharply. Still better at the domestic office though.

Comparing shit from 12 years ago is only what retards online do. Studios donโ€™t because they know the entire landscape has changed with steaming. There was no steaming 12 years ago. Everything is going to steaming and Covid has accelerate it. Only reason people go to the movies now is for the full big screen experience and or they got kids and want to distract them. Why kid movies are still making billions. Movies hit streaming within 35-45 days. People that might have gone because it would take almost a year for it to hit video are just waiting for the streaming release

To break even, *Superman* (2025) needs to gross approximately $560โ€“675 million worldwide, based on a reported production budget of $225 million and marketing costs estimated between $100โ€“200 million. The industry standard for profitability typically requires a film to earn 2โ€“2.5 times its total budget to account for theater revenue splits (studios retain about 50โ€“55% domestically and 40โ€“45% internationally). A lower marketing budget of $100 million would put the break-even point around $500โ€“562.5 million, while a higher estimate of $200 million raises it to $600โ€“675 million. Some reports suggest Warner Bros. would consider $500 million sufficient with strong critical and audience reception, factoring in ancillary revenue from streaming and merchandise. As of July 31, 2025, the film has grossed $510 million globally, indicating it is close to or has surpassed the lower end of the break-even range.[](https://screenrant.com/supermans-box-office-passes-all-other-2025-superhero-movies/)[](https://movieweb.com/superman-box-office-break-even/)[](https://cosmicbook.news/superman-box-office-goal-budget-revealed)

Explain. in the DCAU, he was connected to Superman as he was the main super computer Krypton and thus held all the info of the planet and covered up the fact the planet would blow up because "it was already too late" and he had to focus on his own survival. I believe Kara, Supergirl, was on some Kryptonian colony.

>So what?
The point of the thread is that Superman is a bit unsatisfying as the first Superman movie that starts a shared universe. Considering that it probably ends around 600m
>mos
You're letting your anger get the best of you. Okay, let me explain. People only compare it to MOS because of the contextual similarities, like it being the first Superman movie in years. So there will be comparisons whether you like it or not. Especially since MOS was also considered unsatisfying, and this new Superman movie is doing worse.
The difference may be that current producers had lower expectations for Superman than for Mos. They'll be happy with less, as long as it's not a failure and loses money. It doesn't have to be a success.
But they must have very low expectations if a 630-m Superman movie is enough for them. I don't know what happened to them to make them so demoralized by DC.

>compared to what came out during the last 5 years, this isn't so bad
But forgetting the last 5 years is all junk. Anyone who hasn't realised just how low quality (which I think is more accurate than say "bad") hollywood productions have gotten should probably revisit some older stuff. You couple the very low quality of movies now with both insanely overpriced ticketing and streaming availability and it's going to be hard to get people in to a theater.

When it's meant to kickstart a whole universe with lesser known IPs then it's not a great sign that your heavy hitter can barely break even. As a one off it would be fine, just as MoS as a one off would have been fine. But only in the upcoming years it will be clear if it was a success or a flop. One thing to have in mind though is that merely by announcing it as a reboot of the whole line they killed any chance of The Flash, Blue Adam, Shazam 2 and Blue Beetle recovering any money. All those movies were fucking terrible, of course, but Superman still hurt them, and WB surely was hoping that it was going to be a hit big enough to recover some of those loses. Overall WB is run like shit. But what's new.

It's a very millennialcore movie and it has done really well with that demographic, at least in America. The problem is that it isn't resonating that much with younger people. That is a fact, but also, while this is purely circumstantial, every single video YouTube has recommended me of someone glazing this movie is some nerdy 30 year redditor talking about the importance of "kindness as the new punk rock" with no self awarene whatsoever of how lame and "hello, fellow punk kids" they come off as. This movie targeted millennial boomers too hard and that stopped it from going above 750m.

A few years ago it was cuckservstive boomers with being trad is the new punk. Now it's libtard boomers with being kind is the new punk. Corny ass niggers should jump from a bridge and stop being cringe.

The only way to reach a billion with zoomers is by adapting skibidi toilet and other braindead shit like that. Not even reddit-esque humor, just straight up negative IQ shit.

It's not about listening to punk, retard, it's about being punk, i.e. rebelling against the norm.
Punk is just a matter of speaking.

Yeah, but there's something curious going on with zoomers and alphas. Historically, young people always consumed the media made by the previous generations. It's just common sense. The people making stuff for you are the ones who are old enough to be making it. Millennials were obsessed with Harry Potter, written by a gen x, for example. But younger zoomers really hate millennialcore slop. And I'm not sure what Hollywood will make of that.

No one under 30 speaks like that. Frankly, I'm not sure anyone under 40 speaks like that.

This. Punk is about sticking it to the normies by working for a globalist mega corporation and mass consuming poorly made goods at inflated prices. Punk is NOT about hurting people's feelings, especially if they are marginalized.
