It started ok but lost steam near the end.
They almost had the tone right but you can't have the characters themselves reacting to the comedy.
Moments like following up a bit with Are you serious? when saying nothing would have suited better.

Not as good as the originals in general. A few of the jokes just didn't land for me or the audience I was with. There's also several that are based on current American culture which will displace it from being as timeless as its predecessors.
However, there are also some 10/10 gags and it's definitely the funniest film I've seen in a while. The body-cam recording, thermal imaging and sports commentor thinking about with wife were worth the price of admission alone.

Everything that actually felt like a ZAZ joke landed. Shit like the rag still twisting in the glass when Cody Rhodes put it down, or Frank Jr. being handed a cup of coffee in just about every single scene was gold. Some people don't like the protracted sequence with Drebin shitting himself from the chili dogs, but I really thought it works in context, because he's at the end of his wits with shame by the end of it.

The only things I have serious complaints about are the snowman sequence, which dragged on a little too long, and the fact that they brought back Frank Sr. as an owl. It would have been much funnier if they set up the "If you're proud of me, let me see an owl, as a sign." Then never actually had an owl appear. I was fully expecting that's what they'd do.

Going from baseball in the original to a wrestling match in this one almost feels like a downgrade
That baseball sequence is still some of the funniest shit in cinema ever and they went so far with it with the whole queen thing
In this one it felt like the stakes weren't as high and it wasn't as silly or far out. Maybe they played it safe with how extremely wacky and ridiculously left field the original was?

When has Weird Al been relevant last? He has failed to maintain his relevance by not having hit music videos, not having a youtube channel I have ever heard of, and his own movie didn't do well. I'm sure neither actual boomers who saw the original films in the theatre or zoomers have a clue who he is.

There were only really two jokes that didn't meet the ZAZ pacing, the snowman, and Frank shitting himself in the interrogation.

But Miss Spaghetti having her gun jam, trying it multiple times, only for it to be revealed that she could have pulled out one of the multiple other guns she had on her person in that ample amount of time was a Police Squad! joke straight out of the show.

The main issue with it is that the cuts for some of the jokes/gags weren't as good as the original and some went on far too long. It's a respectable attempt and is a fine comedy on its own but still lives in the originals' shadow.
