It is confirmed. The black goo has DNA for a lot of different species and has vast potential. David essentially reverse engineers the black goo to find xenomorphs.

Essentially, the black goo has a lot of potential in it, but xenmorph/deacon seems to be the default. We don't know where the engineers got it. We do know xenomorphs borrow DNA from hosts and the black goo also does this. Romulus further explored the black goo showing engineer DNA is also on its "history list" so to speak. The original concepts as O'Bannon and Giger told it were that the xenomorph is the unknown, adapted to survive the depths of space. A biomechanical abomination so ALIEN to us and agressive that only exists to reproduce and feed, sex and killing. The fear of it is the fear of what humans arent supposed to see.

Aliens turned them into a hive dwelling "insects" but still worked without breaking the ambience. Alien3 goes into the esoteric calling it the Dragon and parallels to their punishment and sins, just like the comics like Outburst.

The reasoning is simple - the original script for Prometheus was a direct prequel to alien, called "Alien: Engineers" or something, written by David Spaiths.
It was set on LV-426, and it would feature the derelict's crash as the climax. Which is retarded, because the ship in the OG has clearly been there for centuries, if not millennia - but whatever.
When Scott decided to take the franchise in another direction, instead of making a "one and done" prequel, him and his pal Lindelof were too lazy to write a story from scratch that would fit their new grand ideas - so they just tweaked the Spaiths script, changed a few things around (LV-426 became LV-233) and called it a day.
Which is why on both planets there's a Donut space jockey ship crashing, with the pilot dying from a chestburster afterwards. And they're not the same thing. Yes, Ridley is that retarded.

it was the idea in one of the early drafts of Prometheus, or of Convenant, I don't remember. But Ridley EXPLICITLY said, in an interview, that he changed his mind during production. In his view (at least in 2017) he considers David being the CREATOR as canon, with all the other non-Xeno creatures (like the Deacon or Noemorphs) being the ancient and "imperfect" versions - but the xenos from the OG are now made by David.
I don't think the last 8 years have given him some sanity back.
