They're old, spent and bitter and can't get anything "original" made so they just retread old ground and shit on what they made in the past as some kind of "fuck you" to the passage of time. This movie destroyed everything that made the original movie's mythos and premise so innovative and gripping and just turned into Crossed but with an arthouse veneer.

Kinda like how the trailers for Sinners only showed the action-horror elements, when the film is actually as schizophrenic drama/crime film with occasional horror elements and one completely gratuitous shootout near the end.
If people actually knew what they were getting into with these films, they wouldn't have gone to see them, hence why the marketers lie about the content of the film.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter. Boyle and Garland didn't care about adhering to what they themselves established 22 years ago. They just wanted to make a pastiche trilogy full of ideas from canned projects they couldn't make under the guise of being in the 28 Days universe. It's a schizophrenic, embarrassing mess made by two creatives who couldn't care less about what came before, and what they established. It was a horrible experience and a horrible film and the third film is not getting made. They're dumping the second on streaming and moving on.

Am I the only one who liked the ending so much it ruined the rest of the film retroactively? Like oh so we could’ve had a much more interesting and bonkers film this entire time but we got a lame weakly written unoriginal character drama instead? It made the entire movie minus the last two minutes feel like a waste of time.

Sort of. If they'd run with the early part of the film it would have been a decent but not particularly interesting zombie post-apocalypse film. If they'd made it wacky and offbeat like they did in the second half it could have been an interesting arty-farty film with a unique take on the zombie post-apocalypse genre. But they smashed the two together in a huge "fuck you" to the audience, discarding any intriguing ideas along the way and ruining any potential either approach had, unless of course the sequel manages to make it make sense (it won't).

The ending isn't why the film was shit. The whole thing did feel like a deliberate insult to fans of the original, but what the paedo power rangers did was no worse than Selene hacking her partner to death with a machete in 28 Days Later, and the danger of infected blood was explicitly pointed out in an earlier scene when Spike wiped blood off his mother's forehead before it could reach her eyes, so it's not like they just forgot about it or were being inconsistent with the series.

that dude was a kid when the rage virus happened. Jimmy Saville hosted a kids show back in the day. He grew up and decided to style himself after a guy from a show he used to watch (there was never an investigation in this timeline for obvious reasons).

The ninja chavs are his attempt at also emulating teletubbies/power rangers/some sort of superhero squad.

Everyone complains about the ending, and the tone is fucking weird for sure, but it doesnt require an insane analysis to understand.

They had implied that this was the case in the first film already, they allude to it several times, so it was a concept from the start. Also, this isn't a point you really brought up but I'm gonna say it anyways, 28 Weeks Later was not retconned, the ending was sequel bait. In 28yl they took the story where they seemed to want it to go in the first place without ignoring events, not exactly a retcon.

what do you want them to do, string him up and leave him for the infected? He is a 12 year old kid
>spike's dad isnt chasing him the second he finds out spike and his wife is missing so he's just missing in the second half of the movie
They state in dialogue that nobody is allowed to leave to search for people and they forbade it after losing people because of it in the past.
>15 years not a single person decided to go a tad bit further and see what's the doctor was all about
It was about 2 days of walking away from the island, not "a bit". Would you go near a dude who lines up and burns literal hundreds of corpses as his main activity
>spike leaves his mom for a second conveniently letting her stumble upon a birth of an infected baby, what are the odds of that?
He doesn't leave her, she runs off ahead and he catches up like 20 seconds later. keep up
>alpha zombies are basically crossed and retroactively ruin the prequel like Zombieland 2
what
You are the absolute worst type of person who watches films and I seriously suggest you stop doing it, it would make everything better.

None of what you said makes any sense, you're ignoring 90% of the film and making strawmen for the remaining 10%. If you think the hackneyed arthouse "social commentary" makes up for the film being shit then that's great for you, but call it like it is and don't pretend that it was done with either logic or respect for the franchise in mind.

28 Years Later was the first film I've watched in years in the cinema. The trailers beforehand were all for other horror films, and I was blown away by how every single on of them seemed to have been written by AI, formulaic yet nonsensical, like ideas that worked in the past were all being mushed together by a random number generator. Then I watched 28 Years Later and I left the theater wondering if that was also written by AI.

>Hey, so those 28 Days Later movies were pretty popular and TWD is still around. But writing is hard. So what if we just made some artsy fartsy sloppa and just attached the name of a good movie to it. And then we can add in some 5 minute cameos from rage zombies, but make them video game variant types for le epic diversity. Also they'll fuck now and the main antagonist is an alpha paki zombie with BIG FAT FUCKING SWINGING ELEPHANT COCK or something. And then, we'll top it off with a beloved honorable mention to our hero, notorious British child rapist, Jimmy Saville. And they're ninjas or something.
Fucking embarrassing from start to finish.

I'm gonna say it. This movie would be so much better if the father had to sacrifice himself to save Spike from the alpha while they're running on the causeway. He would have died a hero and be the ideal of the altruistic father and great example for his son. Instead we get another weak male role when he out of nowhere starts cheating on his wife.

Why the fuck are the zombies magical with superpowers? The first movie was really grounded and the virus acting very similar to rabies. Just make it more infectious to increase the stakes. Have someone cause an outbreak because they forgot to boil their tea. Create tribal warfare over the limited resources. There's tons of ways to make an interesting sequel without ruining the setting and creating magical zombies. The last part of Threads is close to what I wanted from this movie. What a disappointment.

The next film is going to be the real horror.
Did you guys saw who is going to direct? Yeah...the horror...the horror...
All about politics and left-wing, again.

I still don’t understand why they went with Nia DaCosta. Even if they wanted a black filmmaker for someone with a different voice, surely there’s one black talented filmmaker already in the UK or Europe they could get instead. Why fly out an American that’s only done one big horror remake and one Marvel movie that nobody gave a fuck about?

> complaining about some obscure lore inconsistency in a 28dmy movie...
> complaining about a 28dmy movie not focusing enough on the zombies "logic"...

The movie has some problems, but most of the arguments in this thread are so profoundly stupid that it's a waste of time to engage with them.
Sub-mental media literacy level for a board dedicated to tv and film.

If you know the series you know this and Erik were some kind of allegory for white nationalism or white racism.
It's all cringe and not able to be trusted at face value simply put.
The comment Erik makes in the train car and that weird skull pile ritual scene are all extremely suspect.
All these characters having blonde hair and blue eyes etc. is not a coincidence either. I don't trust any of this shit. So many things in the movie had double meaning just like the first film.

I liked the shota and Kick-Ass segment of the movie and wish that was the whole film. I didn't care at all for his mother and found that entire storyline cringe and embarrassing. At least Kelson trolled them both and just killed her and made her into a skull lol.

Nobody could answer this for me last time I asked: Where did all the infected come from in 28 Years?
28 Days' ending and 28 Weeks (all of it) both showed that the infected were 99.999% dead (and survivor camps had long been evacuated). The country was dead, maybe a few thousand holdouts.

Then the London fuckup happened, and maybe ~1-5k infected were released out of London. Maybe it's these ones that got the super-rage virus (giving them basic social behavior, alpha mutations, the knowledge to hunt and gather), but either way how did ~3000 turn into the possible millions that exist in the country in 28 Years?
There's a shitload in the middle of bumfuck nowhere up north. Where did all the people appear from?
