I have to admit, the trailer isn't really making dying to see it. There was no real hook there other than the found footage aspect. The rest of the scenes looked pretty much like every other mainstream horror these days.

I know you said 'from the last 20 years' and I haven't watched a huge amount of 2010+ horror but this doesn't feel like that common a trope. It's lame every time it happens, but compared to something like 'spooky kid drawings' or 'found footage' it is way less common.
What movies have that trope? Off the top of my head:

Stuckman always seemed like a fag but I respect that he didn’t try to hide behind some ironic “it’s meant to be crap” bullshit like virtually all other Youtuber films.

I don’t expect much, but even if it’s cliché ridden garbage he has a chance to show he knows something about movie making. If any part of it has merit, from editing to cinematography, he suddenly gains more credibility than the rest of them. The bar is that low.
