>>213392349>It’s his current “tough guy” schtick that is hardest for me, and also why gorillagate feels significant. I think initiating a physical altercation with a 60+ year old man, even “in jest,” was a mistake.Yeah, it was Sam not being able to "break character" even slightly. It would be one thing to just reply to Harland's nonsense with his own nonsense and the whole thing because a cycle of wasting time, but Sam was trying to do 4D chess on everything Harland said, his hackles were up when they shouldn't have been and it spiraled out of control.
He does have this problem on his home turf, too, but generally he can tone down the Sam Hyde character enough for an actual discussion or just a barrage of yes-and humor between him and the guys.
I've only watched season 1 of fishtank, but what put me off of the following seasons was at the end of the first one where Sam was doing the whole "Haha, you thought anyone would actually win this? You thought we'd actually give you money? Haha, you're both losers and disqualified!"
Nobody bought that, it was obvious, but he still went on for like 5 minutes (in a very unconvincing way because he's not that great of an actor) about how the whole thing was a big prank or whatever, because I assume he decided he was going to do that and was too stubborn to adapt and cut it short when the bit wasn't really working because Josie and Letty were dazed and only half-listening in the first place.
