See this one works because it's just barely realistic enough to look possible, but also painful. There's a point where the jaw stretches so much that you instantly know it wouldn't be possible without ripping through flesh, so it becomes rubbery and stupid to the eye.
The mouth stretch can be appropriately disturbing, but it has to fall just shy of cartoonish.
