Nah, Bobby is not booksmart, and Hank never went to college either and probably didn't push it. I'm only halfway through the season but I really don't understand how Hank ended up in Saudi Arabia working for Aramco. He sold propane...he wasn't an engineer or anything, he's not piping it in. He was the asst. mgr of a store that sold grills and tanks of propane. They lived a solidly middle-class, arguably lower middle class life. They had a modest house, not a mcmansion. Even in Texas, having a house that's only one story is a sign of being lower class.

I think a more realistic path for Bobby would be to be a sous chef or a bartender/waiter in a restaurant. That would be more representative of the kinds of jobs most non-college educated zoomers have, but, I think that reality just might have been too depressing to depict. Modern American society is much more dysfunctional and depressing than it was during the original run of King of the hill. They hinted at back then, especially with regards to Luanne's life, but it wasn't normal like today.

If Bobby was depicted as a normal zoomer that didn't go to college, he'd be working as a server in a restaurant and then on his off hours they would show him doing doordash or uber.

A plot line would be him delivering to Doordash to Chane Wassonasong's house and Connie coming to the door to grab the food in a towel. But they can't do that because at that point it's not even funny, there's no lesson to be learned, it's just depressing.

My overall point is that, when I was in college, amongst my friends who did not go to college, none of them were a head chef at a restaurant. If they had him closer to 30 years old and running his own restaurant, they could have the same storylines but it would be more realistic.

Hank Hill as an assistant mgr at a propane store with a substitute teacher wife living in a lower middle class neighborhood next to a cuck with a pest removal business and an unemployed veteran and a striving asian immigrant was all very realistic and believable

That's why the show was so good, it felt like a very accurate reflection of American life. It's also why a lot of people did not initially like King of the Hill. For years it had the reputation of being a boring show that wasn't interesting, because to the average viewer it was just regular life but animated. The humor was subtle

I agree with this, however, it also would've been much more realistic especially for a character like Bobby. My argument is that his life is too good for his character. Again, it makes for a decent show, and having the setting of the restaurant is good. But the show just isn't as realistic as the initial run.

A lot of dorky millenial kids with stereotypical boomer dads would watch King of the Hill and identify with Bobby and think "he's just like me". They'd see Bobby as the kid who isn't good at sports, and thus disappoints his father, but otherwise has friends and other redeeming qualities. In the reboot, Bobby is basically a chad who is kicking ass at life in every category except getting with Connie. And again, that's awesome for Bobby, truly, but how many zoomer guys are going to be able to relate to that and think, "wow, Bobby and me are kinda similar?"

I think the boomers and aging Gen-Xers watching the show will be able to relate to Hank and Peggy, but Bobby is a more central figure in the reboot than the initial, and they really just made him too idealized.

It's like, Bobby is what Mike Judge and co wish zoomer men were like, but it's not what they're really like. Just seems to me like they didn't truly do their homework.

This is my other gripe with the show. Most of it isn't that woke, and some shit is pretty funny. But Dale's character, voice aside, just seems like a caricature of Dale from the earlier seasons. In the earlier seasons, Dale was definitely into conspiracy theories, but he also seemed correct half the time. He had a righteous skepticism of government but maybe he just went a little overboard sometimes.

Now he just seems like a batshit crazy insane person with practically no redeeming features. The episode where they go to the Bush library before Bobby's restaurant and Dale is just ranting about the trilateral commission and even Lyndon LaRouche while getting the other tour attendees to follow him was just painfully cringe.

As far as believability, I guess I'm just surprised that Bobby isn't more of a nerd. He liked videogames in the initial run, and he was really into comedy. I think the head chef arc is cool, but I always imagined a grown up Bobby would be a stand-up comedian, at least on the side.

I could see Bobby having a fledgling gig as a Youtuber or Twitch streamer or TikToker, either doing comedy on there for fun or streaming himself playing video games or something.

Literally this, though to be fair he's not in school, he decided not to go to college and instead to focus on the restaurant. Again, I think this is just Mike Judge's idealized view of what a zoomer male SHOULD be, not what they actually are. He was really good at writing what boomers and their kids were like in the 90s and 2000s. But now...not so much. He's good at writing boomers, Hank is still believable if a bit softer (but that happens to aging boomers). And Bobby's character works if he's ~30yrs old. Judge is a boomer and is likely projecting his experiences with his kids/friend's kids onto Bobby, but those are most likely all millenials and not 20 somethings.

Bobby's character used to squeal and act like a girl and be kinda gay. He wasn't gay, but he had some feminine mannerisms, which wasn't uncommon for a lot of millenial guys. This is actually a good point and something I hadn't considered. I guess my gripe with this is basically like with the Star Wars sequel jj abrams trilogy...which is that I want backstory exposition that explains how the characters got to where they are. Maybe that's asking too much, but I think seeing Bobby pitch Ted Wassonasong would be interesting, maybe Chane would get a bit jealous etc. There's a lot of time that has passed and I think later seasons could be filled in with that.
