to be honest though, 10 years ago was a different time and channel awesome with its terrible movies and cast of weirdos was peak for mockery.
doug was a unique case because he stopped doing nostalgia critic because he had some artistic calling and thought he was a big fish in a small pond. so he scammed 100k from his paypigs to produce new shows and NEEDED to build sets and buy props and hire actors and shit. just think about how many plastic toy guns 100k gets you
everything he made ended up being either filmed in front of a tiny green screen or in a random room in their warehouse (instant production value) anyway. demo reel was dead on arrival
they realised they were in over their heads because no one at channel awesome has any qualifications or real production experience but they still had to live up to the indiegogo campaign so they put together the gameshow and shat that out. it looked like they spent about 50 bucks on that
he fucked up so badly he ended crawling back to nostalgia critic because that was his ceiling. so, the worst thing you can say about dog walker is that he tried and he failed, which is a pretty vanilla internet "scandal" by today's standards
i guess the funny thing is he's not even the worst of the people related to channel awesome. doug would probably be better off if he stayed solo and channel awesome was never a thing and he didn't get conned by michaud

Thus era was a better time and the fall of Channel Awesome tracks with the degradation of the entire internet. Someone like Lindsay could be seen as the "hot girl" before the internet became flooded with millions of amateur porn stars. Everyone on Channel Awesome had some clear passion for their hobbies and cared about it outside of a surface level funko pop way. But eventually most users fell into a combination of modern politics, mental illness and degeneracy. Sure there are some still doing the same thing, like Doug or Guru Larry, but the majority has fallen.

I'm not sure that it is apathy exactly - though he did achieve a fair amount of fame/success early on, so there may be less need to "prove himself". I think he's a perfectionist, and his attachment to current-year-lefty ideology has made him too afraid of causing offence to be funny in the way he used to be. And yes, he probably is lazy too, though I don't believe that was always the case - in his prime he put loads of effort into his scripts and performances. I dunno, man. He is voicing a character on Lackadaisy which is the only of those new indie animated series that actually seems like it could be good but while Viv sold out to Amazon and Goose is producing episodes within deadlines the fucks that make Lackadaisy released a pilot and like two shorts and now have been making the next episode for over a year now I'm pretty sure.
