>>213458995the concept of the rumbling was opposed to eren's core ideals and the main reason he felt he had to do it was because he saw the future and thus he was led to believe it was the only way
isayama's whole writing style involves creating mystery and teasing out themes, but writing a good ending requires tying up those mysteries and themes. it turns out isayama is terrible at that and in fact it seems like he barely even understood the character he had established for eren, or really the theme of the entire series. both eren and the series is largely about having the courage to face down injustices that seem insurmountable, not because you think you can win, but because it is unjust not to try. here are a few examples
>eren pointlessly throws a fit at the people he thinks are cowardly in the courtroom early on>eren pointlessly attacking reiner to protest his evil acts>eren pointlessly punching a titan to protest the idea of running and leaving mikasa to die>paradis realizes they are fucked in a fight vs marley but are gonna try to fight them anywayit's basically typical ragetard anime bullshit but it does establish that eren is a moral absolutist to a stupid degree, and it somehow works to his advantage. but he can no longer excuse being reckless when he gains precognition, so his personality is upended. you could argue that it is moral for paradis to kill everyone out of self defense, if it is their only option. the moral ambiguity really destroys eren's whole personality.
imo, the "correct" way to end his arc would have been for him to rally to regain his former personality, and try to resolve the conflict more justly while ignoring his precognition telling him it can't be done. they could have ended the series in a somber cliffhanger where they have just thrown away their ultimate weapon against the world, only armed with the knowledge that eren's precognition is not the actual future, but memories from past timeloops. yes, a timeloop ending.
