That's one of the problems that the show makes a point of highlighting. Don, Roger and Pete probably being the clearest examples. These men think that they are invincible and that they can take whatever they want. But reality catches up with them. Be it women, business or state of affairs in society.
They're forced to answer for their irresponsible extra-martial adventures, they're forced to change how they do business (especially clear with Roger who's born into Sterling Cooper and who's been doing only that one thing for all of his adult life) and they're forced to accept the winds of change blowing through a very quickly changing society.

These men are greedy and hungry. They think that they can continue straight upwards, bedding more women and earning more money. But sooner or later they must face the facts and pick up the bill from their gluttonous feast.
