This was a time when America was really pushing the narrative (quite successfully) that black and white Americans were the same culture and the same people. The Cosby Show, Family Matters (spinoff from an 80s show) In Living Color, and Griff from Married with Children essentially being a black Al Bundy. Gangster rap and self segregation ruined all of it.
