Did you watch the extended editions? I wouldn't recommend those on a first viewing.

I have some problems with the films when I watch them today. Orlando Bloom is cheesy. The decision to make Gimli, Merry and Pippin a bunch of clowns is annoying. The Enya music is shit, and is only there because Titanic created a trend for faux-Celtic nonsense. Gandalf is too emotional. Some of the stuff in Moria looks like videogame footage, especially that scene with the troll. The outside world looks like New Zealand, because it is, and that's not how I imagined Middle-Earth when I read the books. Rivendell seems like something from the MCU.

But despite all this, I still like them.
