Brother kills himself, it's a family-run business and the drama stems from his death hanging over their heads the entire time. You'd the think the show was about cooking or running the kitchen but that's about 10% of the show. Most of it is contrived drama or filling in time trying to be funny.

Well if you watched the show he never complains about what the customers order or the complexity of the job and neither do the other chefs. He never complains about waking up early and scrubbing the floors and equipment by hand. He just makes it harder for himself and his fellow employees by being a messy autistic artistic genius and updating the menu every day.

the source of drama is his older brother who committed suicide right before the start of the show. jeremy allen white's character is a nervous wreck. little flashbacks show the dysfunction of the family.

goal in season 1 is getting out of debt. goal in season 2 is opening the fine dining restaurant of his dreams. he already has max level chef stats starting the show and worked with god tier chefs. if his goal was to just run the sandwich shop he could do that but he makes it harder by having higher goals and sacrificing his personal life for work. it kinda reminds me of the movie whiplash and chasing perfection.

the show ditches the sandwich shop shit after season 1 and becomes more fine dining/celebrity chef cameo jerk off shit. all the minorities he works with get their own episodes. his cousin is the best character.

They scream and swear at each other non stop. It's insane. The writers have no idea how to build tension, and have clearly never worked a service job in their lives because it's ridiculous.
