It was such a step back from the first two.

Yeah, hereโ€™s where the major deviations from the book begin, wearing muggle clothes, etc.

The last 20 minutes sure are a hoot though! Personally I enjoy the first movie the most, it's a simple little story that wraps up neatly enough. The series itself is so insanely repetitive i wouldn't blame anyone for skipping entire movies they don't particularly enjoy though

It's upgrade, pleb. An egregious step back would be the fourth film.

No not really. These books and films are for children and the children watching and acting in these movies were now young teenagers. They aged it up and rightfully so. The first two movies are fun for the whole family, but they still have YA themes running throughout. It was a natural evolution for the film series to follow suit with the books and make them more geared towards teenagers/young adults.

It's not my favourite book but it's a great one and I love what they did with Remus

I think HP popularized the "war arc" at the end of YA series. They are always a slog to get through. All the fun gets sucked out, the entire cast of characters gets important things to do, the amount of talking and planning is huge, the plot advances at a snail's pace, 3 side characters get killed off, and major coming-of-age character moments have to be fit in as well. Even the HP movies had to split Deathly Hallows into two parts.

Definitely overrated by hipsters who want to seem mature for liking the one where nothing of consequence happens. Cuaron uses a lot of dishonest camera tricks and other gimmicks to try to elevate the vacant plot, but it just comes off desperate. This movie is the catalyst for the godawful Yates movies.

Me and my GF watched all of these over the course of like 2 weeks because I'd never seen them and all I remember is;
>opening of first movie
>ending of prisoner
>ending of half blood prince where snape says half blood prince
>Ron sperging out and getting mad at harry for 1.5 movies maybe
>kids not telling adults anything so they can have tomfoolery and plot moves foward
>the Weasley bros being top lads
>Ginny being boring
>madeye dies offscreen
>not liking the blonde kid but knowing they were laying it on so thick he'd have some sort of redemption arc
>I think there was a black or Chinese girl at some point that liked Harry

I actually think the whole "series shows a child growing up, slowly becoming more aware of serious adult issues, and the final volumes deal with serious shit" model is really good, Rowling is just a dogshit writer so it wasn't good in this case.

This shit is irritating. The plot of like 4 of the books would be completely nullified if Harry literally just went to Dumbledore and told him what was going on.

What the fuck does this mean? I hate every faggot who uses this buzzword.
>nothing of consequence happens
Are you retarded? This is the movie where Harry finds his first blood relative that actually cares for him, and starts feeling an actual familial bond, as well as setting up shit like Ministry being violently corrupt and fragile. Lots of interesting stuff.
People complaining about muggle clothes are retarded, it makes sense that most modern teenagers would say fuck off with that cloak shit I'll wear what I want. I mean there could have been an element added that muggle born wizard students or just wizard students who is interact with muggles prefer to wear casual clothes while the kids who are firmly within the wizard world still dress in robes and shit, would have added an interesting dynamic / world building, but this whole thing is really a massive nitpick. Movie has style and balances extremely well darker elements and the remnants of whimsy of the first two films and the movie is nothing like Yates period which was super bland most of the time and unfocused (Order of the Phoenix and both Deathly Hallows are shot like generic YA movies, but Half-Blood Prince randomly has a separate visual style straight from Albert Serra arthouse movie, except poorly executed cause you often can't see shit in the scenes).
