45 minute short film that they realized they needed to pad, then they padded it to over 2 hours with completely pointless filler, then forgot to go back and give any depth to the antagonist, kid and father, the only 3 fucking characters who actually matter or have any impact on the plot.
Also entire film relies on pretty much every other character actually being retarded, especially the police, and the cop.
Have we got to the point where Horror movies just get glowing reviews based on a single funny visual gag? Completely wild this is getting the praise it's getting. "DUUR ITS ABOUT SCHOOL SHOOTINGS", no it's an extremely fucking basic baba yaga eating kids witch story, that is all. The AR with counter of kids killed in school shootings is one of the most fucking cynical attempts to create "depth" in discussions/reviews that simply is not there anywhere else in the movie, that I think i've ever seen a movie do.

youre a pleb anon the only bad thing about the movie was that they never explained what the witch did with the kids. the kids were gone for 2 months, what did the witch do with them?

other than that it was flawless

the intro and the josh brolin dream sequence were made beautifully and after that you just have A24 movie with some jump scares and some funny moments
no idea how it got so much praise and great opinions

She was sucking their souls out to give herself youth. She gets less dead looking by the end (she has natural hair again, she isn't lying in bed dying of cancer). It's a slow process apparently, but she was getting less hideous.

I don't usually watch new films but I was dragged to this the other day. There must be a lot of paid shills on this board because it was one of the worst movies I've seen. We collectively left the movie theater and didn't really even laugh about how shit it was, it was just super disappointing. "I liked Barbarian, so I wonder why this one was so bad?", etc.

I disagree, the movie has a lot of great sequences in addition to those.

The Marcus running sequence was great, the cuts showing him going through the neighborhood while everyone is reacting to him, the chase sequence at the gas station, the same guy that helped Justine the first time against Paul's wife ignoring her the second time, it's great.

I had to check real quick, all 17 are there at the end after they killed the witch, so they all lived through whatever it was.

Yeah their bodies are alive, it's unclear how much of their souls are left, if anything. The ending narration suggests some of them endured the soul sucking but others never recovered. Some remained comatose.

I'm wondering if alex is the one who ended up taking control of them given how he used them at the end

It seems to be a time thing, Alex's parents were controlled the longest, and they never recovered. The witch got the kids later and eventually they started to get better. Thanos was only controlled for a few minutes and he was fine.
