Wish we got a directors cut, apparently the screening version of the movie was quite different, had a completely different ending (same as the anime) and even had the GITS classic song during the opening also apparently had a lot of long cyberpunk city shots like GITS.
You can even see in the trailers, entire sections of the movie are missing that appear in the trailers.
Apparently test audiences were like "Duuur I don't get the ending" and "City establishing shots are boring" so those got cut along with a lot of plot elements.

Most of the GitS franchise is totally disconnected separate adaptations of the source material and you don't have to watch "in order" because there is no order to it.

Movie 1 + Movie 2 are direct continuity, but the TV series is its own thing unrelated to the movies. Basically you can just pick something and watch it.
