Classic case of Season 2 syndrome.
Season 1 is masterpiece that is an assemblage of ideas that have been brewing around in the creator's heads for decades. Season 2 is whatever they can come up with in the time between and ideas that weren't good enough for season 1.
You see it a lot and the better the first season is generally the more the second season misses its mark.
It also is a case of predecessor syndrome though. I think that if Season 2 had come out first it would've been better received, but season 1 is so good that it makes season 2 look bad.

With more planning and working it could've lived up to the first season. The setting, characters, aesthetic and mystery all work together like S1 but not enough time is given to establish it well enough. Ideally they'd have cut gay cop and McAdam's scenes and focused on Velcro and Vince.

I used to say people overreacted to this season being bad but following a recent rewatch it really is weak. Scrap the girl boss and gay cop and if might have been salvageable. I still find the plot incomprehensible and what I’ve come to understand isn’t even very interesting.
