Statistics. If this were true across all theaters or even most, then box office performances would not have precipitous declines week over week. This is an anomalously well-performing theater. Most are close to empty on average.

Some numbers. Assume it's showing 3x daily across 3300 theaters for ≈10k showings per day, or ≈70k per week. Assume average ticket price is $20.

Weekly gross is approximately $2 million. The average theater will have n people in it. So it's a simple equation.

$2 million = n * 70k * $20

n = 2 million /(70k*20) ≈ 2 people

The average theater should be dead, or close to it.
