Now that the dust has settled, who was in the wrong?
How would you rewrite the movie so that it is more culturally sensitive for today's climate that is less bigoted against aliens?
>>213640872 (OP)*Slim Whitman plays on repeat*
Why did Tim Burton waste so much of the budget on all these celebrities that barely had any roles? I am sure that he could easily get away with 10 mil instead of 100 mil, so it wouldn't be such a massive bomb.
>>213640947He made a great flick. Killing off all the celebs except for a few was the correct choice.
>>213640947>>213641179>He made a great flick. Killing off all the celebs except for a few was the correct choice.I agree, in that sense it is quite avant-garde for its time.
I remember not liking the movie at all. It was a kind of convoluted, editing mess.
>>213640872 (OP)Waste of a cast. Boring as hell.
>>213641240>It was a kind of convoluted, editing mess.If only Marcia Lucas was there in the editing room, she could've saved the movie like she saved Star Wars.
The aliens were assholes purely for the sake of being assholes. That's the whole point of the invasion.
>>213641278Nta, but I'm the anon he was talking to, and after a lot of research, it's clear that you are correct.
>>213640872 (OP)WHEN I'M CALLIN' YOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
>>213640872 (OP)I was just talking about this movie with my friend. Stop stalking me OP!
>>213641381i used to have this one
My parents got it for me. I was a bit disappointed because this character wasnt even in the movie but i pretended it was awesome
>>213640872 (OP)How could the genius that made Ed Wood have made the utter garbage that is Mars Attacks?
Kept waiting for a joke or anything entertaining to occur.
>>213641281Ugh, so bigoted. Arrival = Mars Attacks but good. Aliens bring wisdom, but only a woman can decipher it, while the men want to kill.
>>213641636The entire film went over your head.
I love the trading cards and the comics, but the movie is just awful. The effects are terrible, the acting is wooden, the pacing and story are all over the place. I donโt think any of these can be brushed off with โbut itโs a comedy! Itโs a satire!โ The movie is just flat out boring and annoying, like an 8 year old who has learned a new joke and keeps telling it to you again and again and again and again.
>>213641814I felt that way when I saw it as a teenage brat for the first time.
>>213641658Movie sucks. Deal with it.
>>213641852It's a classic. One of the rare black comedies that aren't made for the filthy masses.
The ending is so great.
It's not unusual!....
>>213641889>One of the rare black comedies that aren't made for the filthy masses.Of course it was. You don't shoot a film on an $80 million budget in 1990s money thinking you're going for a sophisticated niche audience.
This cost more than Independence Day, more than Goldeneye, more than Jurassic Park.
>>213642281And yet that's all who appreciate it. Teenage me didn't like it, but now that my brains have kicked in, I can see that Tim hit a home run.
>>213641821>dinobros helping humans to defend their planet against alienssounds pretty cool actually
Jurassic Park sucks. The early dino scenes are shocking, yes, so good that they're shocking, the but BAD acting from the kids ruin it.
>>213640872 (OP)I always like that movie as well as all the 80s homages to classic B movie moster/alien invasion films (e.g. The Blob, Invaders from Mars, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Night of the Comet, Spaced Invaders, etc...).
>>213642499>Spaced InvadersNow THAT film sucks. I was so let down. What a borefest.
So the movie was based on a magic the gathering predecessor with aliens?
>>213644076more like hockey cards for nerds
Now that the dust has settled, can we all agree that the best thing about the movie was the Tom Jones song? That was the first time we heard Tom Jones, when we watched this movie as little girls (like me), or little boys.
>>213643817Kek. Every times these get posted i always uncover a whacky one ive never seen
>>213640872 (OP)This movie is really not good at all.
>>213640947Burton was a bad pick for this one.
>>213640872 (OP)Fuck you, /tv/. You told me this movie was bad so I sat on it for years. Ended up watching it on HBO Max a few years ago and loved it. One of the few pieces of media that got away with being bad on purpose.
I wouldn't change a damn thing, what i want know how did Burton get so many big names in his shitty big budget b movie
>>213645289>what i want know how did Burton get so many big names>>213645289>big budgetAnswered it for you, using your post.
>>213645289Burton was a very prestigious director at that time.
>>213640872 (OP)I'm amazed how many people are filtered by this movie. Guess hardcore Burton fans don't like comedy
>>213640947He made a parody of disaster movies from the era he was growing up. Those all had huge star studded casts.
>>213640872 (OP)Independence Day came out a few months before. audiences and critics didn't like a movie that made them feel stupid for enjoying it.
>>213645104Tom Jones had been famous for 30 years by that point, you kids were just living under a rock
