I am biased as a fan of sci-fi, so I can't say much about his other genre films of the past 20 years. Although I did see part of House of Gucci and liked it.
But Prometheus and Covenant are both worth it for his thread of critique of both audiences and studio execs that can't move on from Alien, out of possessive nostalgia and corporate greed respectively.
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
On top of this he produced (and directed a bit of) Raised by Wolves which was frankly the best most interesting piece of original of Sci-Fi television in the past decade, even in spite of its obvious diversity mandate.
So no, I think you're completely wrong there.
