Carpenter's worst film.
Utterly boring.
If you haven't seen at least 6 of his films IN theater, then your zoomed opinion is irrelevant to me.

Yeah. It was slow and plodding. There's almost no soundtrack and a surprising lack of action.

I don't agree with it being a boring film, but I didn't like it either. I rewatched it recently back-to-back with AvP and found the latter to be the more enjoyable experience.
Still better than Assault on Precinct 13.

It had really good ideas but poorly executed probably due to being coked out

Perfect masterpiece of action and acting with a supreme only slowed down by badvisual effects due to production standards of the time

Escape from New York was great.
It was Escape from Los Angeles that was horrible.

Great movie.
The newer remake was not as good as the original.

Escape from LA is his worst. Or at least tied with Ghosts of Mars for its worst.

Carpenter got really bitter he did not get rewarded for his films like Spielberg did. ET came out the same summer as The Thing, ET did amazing box office numbers and The Thing flopped. Carpentoer worked his ass off for The Thing, and seeing Spielberg loved so much for ET and The Thing ignored broke Carpenter. Carpentor made Starman to appeal to a softer audience, but he had lost his passion. Escape from LA was a cartoon Carpenter just phoned in, it is nowhere near as good as Escape from NY, which was made when Carpenter still had a passion to make good movies.

Big Trouble ramps up into insanity near the end at the very least, whereas Escape is just Kurt walking in trash.
