On the subject of these kind of movies, what was the first "seemingly mild mannered guy is revealed to be the ultimate special ops/hitman badass" movie? I want to say it was a History of Violence but surely there were others before that right?
I don't just mean everyday guy is a badass like in Die Hard or First Blood. We know pretty much from the start those are cops and army guys. I'm talking full on twist of regular average joe is the ultimate badass.

You're in luck. The sequel is even better because it leans harder in the absurdity. I genuinely think it's also better than the JW movies, because the JW movies often got way, way too self-indulgent with the attempts at worldbuilding, but N2 focuses on the absurd dark humor and action.

Yes; because I know why its done. Its not done because its good story telling. Its done so they could cram a black guy into the film.

That's the definition of CONTRIVED: Obviously planned or calculated; not spontaneous or natural; labored.

Contrived does not mean that its not believable. It means that its done for an ulterior reason rather than for the purpose of telling the story. A character drinking a Coca Cola as the camera focuses on the label may be totally believable; but its still contrived.
