The vfx are dated as hell. The acting is terrible. The plot is mid.
The script is okay at best.

But hear me out..
The art direction, sound design, cinematography, and sets/locations, fantastic.

Its really not a great movie. But I enjoy it. You should give it a rewatch.

The vfx still holds up great, the acting by Radha Mitchell and Sean Bean, excellent. Laurie Holden did good too. Everyone else? Not that great. Remember this is a horror movie, and there are different standards. As far as horror movie acting, from those three this is about as good as it gets.

Disagree. It's not up there with all time greats obviously, it's not oscar winner tier, but it is a very good movie. When viewed strictly from the lens of horror movie quality and also game adaptations, it's one of the best out there.

My only complaint is the church scenes and cult could have been done better, my interest always wanes when it gets to that point. But it finishes up with a very solid melancholic/Silent Hill worthy ending.

Video effects are the apex in movie making, the creature design and the transformation into the otherworldly are what sell the movie. Only gripe I have is with the little girl screaming silent hill during sleepwalking instead of the accident scene In the game. The motorcycle cop is crazy hot and she sells the normal person being transported to this insane situation.

It could happen, lots of random people get sucked into silent hill. It was a stunning choice to have models/dancers as the nurses. It captures James' sexual desire and his disgust of it at the same time.

The new movie comes out in January. It's not looking good, Silent Hill bros...

So many things have to go right for a movie to work that it's crazy that it ever does. Half of the things you mention won't even be clear to the people making it, day to day, but only when it's being edited and finialized. Almost everyone involved can only do their best with their own sections and then send what's produced off in hopes that the others were also as careful and talented and lucky and their contributions are all good and everything meshes together.

Pyramid Head being in the movie made absolutely zero fucking sense without James also being in it, and just showed the creators had no idea what they were doing.

It actually shows you don't understand what they were doing. The whole point is that the audience is in Silent Hill, not the characters, so it can blend in everything from the entire series, even when it's contradictory.

They wanted to make a less convoluted story and the mother searching for her daughter was a better fit. Pyramid head was connected to James but it was also an iconic visual motif of silent hill. They weaved it into the story well, i think.

I love this movie. It has perfect pacing, not a minute wasted. Yes its cheesy but its perfect.
