>my god, is that Sauron's ring? The very ring forged in the black fires of Mount Doom by Sauron, the Great Enemy. It is bound to his very life-force, a fragment of his malice and will, cunningly wrought into gold so fair and light that it deceives the eye. Do not mistake it for a mere trinket — it is a servant and master both, whispering in the mind, feeding upon desire, and bending even the purest heart toward ruin. It does not sleep, it does not weaken, and it will never forget its true master. No hand can wield it for good, Bilbo. None. It will twist every purpose to its own end, until all that you are is but a puppet dangling on the strings of shadow. It should remain in the possession of no man, no elf, no dwarf, nor any creature under the sun or moon, for in time it would undo them all. The only safety lies in its destruction — and until that day, it must be kept hidden, locked away from every seeking eye until we have a chance to destroy it?
>Anyone you can hold onto it for a few years while I double check

Hobbits are the best ring bearers because they don't care about power and outsiders don't care about the Shire. The Ring was much safer at Bag End than it would've been with Gandalf

>that's a weird ring, it reminds me of the ring of power, but that would be crazy, it was lost like a thousand years ago
>hmmm all the archives of ringlore are held at minas tirith
>stay here and keep that ring safe while I go and have a read
>*zooms to gondor*
>woah mordor looks freakier than it used to
>oh shit this ring sounds exactly like that ring, oh and sauron might be returning, and here's a way to prove that the ring is THE ring
>*zooms to hobbiton*
In the book this takes decades
