sam fucked up his 1st audition. they were thinking about going with laurence fishburne, but he ultimately turned it down, but when sam came back for another audition somebody accidentally fucked up (probably a PA) and called him Mr. Fishburne and sam got so pissed and it showed in his audition as angry jules and he got the part kek

But at the same time, I don't think it's entirely unreasonable to think that some random people (maybe not a high-profile casting agent) might consider a "noname" actor for a specific role as a fancast. Like, I have this one actress as a good Classic Lara Croft. Will she get the part? Lmao no never in a million years, there will never be a Classic Lara on screen anyway. But there's been multiple times where I showed her to someone and before I even mentioned it, the other person said "you know what, she'd make a good Lara". So some wishful thinking fan casts do have some merit, I think.
