I couldn't make it through the first episode. This scene, the transitioning of the kids, and the fly through the ship looked awful and was really hackey.
>have interesting scene concept
>technical craft is mediocre

Assuming that that synth body weighs north of at least 100 lbs, the impact force generated from falling that far should have sunk her feet into the sand up to the ankles but no, no, here she just lightly bounces off the ground as if she fell from 10 feet up. *eyeroll*

Alien is 46 years old. And the only reason why this shit is getting made is because of its modern day stature.

To put that in perspective, imagine watching something made in the 90s based off something from the 40s where they are completely incapable of capturing any part of the original's imaginative spark or improving on the ideas. Film and tv is dead.

The fly through into the ship was very jarring, but I really liked the scene where the kids transitioned into their new bodies. At least its a director having a sense of style again, as opposed to art by committee "made for everyone"

It might be okay if there was like 1/2 of the kid robots, but with all of them there you know that none of them matter. Idk itโ€™s a weird thing to depict anyway. Regardless they had a good idea imo regarding the premise of the show but it just doesnโ€™t exactly feel like Alien outside of the beginning phase. Truly i was really excited when it got started but my interest rapidly degraded and I just donโ€™t think il continue at least not until everything is out at once. I donโ€™t want to linger on a show teetering on mediocre

I feel like there is more than enough story in the world, they didn't need to throw in the "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" angle as well. There was even some of that to explore already with the 2nd generation androids. Its place in the timeline also makes no sense, and they could have set it whenever they wanted. They deliberately chose to have it conflict with future events they'll have to retcon now.

The thing is, this shit isn't hard from a writing perspective.

The weird ghost in the shell robot kids are the "aliens" and that's the driving theme behind their characterisation, (i.e. the isolation of being terminally ill, being a weird kid, how being a robot does or does not change their insecurities)
The actual Aliens in the show need to represent something else entirely, like the disgusting and uncaring aspect of nature and how "adulthood" makes everything complicated.
You have to make the characters likeable and so the threat isn't SPOOKY MONSTER it's seeing innocent characters not suceed in their goals.
Maybe contrive a reason for the two character groups to meet that isn't fucking retarded (alien ship crashes into an isolated blacksite evil lab and alongside the aliens there's a plague that kills anything organic, robot kids need to leave)

Anyone can write this shit but they insist on weird batshit insane stuff instead.

The older woman should have backed away a bit and shielded her eyes, considering a heavy and potentially unpredictably behaving mass is about to land in front of her. The girl should have cushioned the landing more with her legs and body instead of just dropping down legs almost straight.
They may have thrown a dummy into the sand from that height and concluded that this is roughly how it would have looked. It's always possible that they did more research than we give them credit for. However, they didn't test it with the real thing because it doesn't exist. Therefore they should've done more to sell the illusion and made it more dramatic.

Romulus got made by someone who was clearly a fan of the franchise, Alien: Isolation in particular.

This is my biggest sticking point. People pretend the producers of the show care about the franchise just because they have the clunky computers and green text on a CRT screen but then they choose to set the show TWO WHOLE YEARS before Alien. Add in the fact that these dudes were out on their mission for decades, that means by the time Alien rolls around, they've known about the xenomorph for decades at that point which cheapens the first movie.

for some reason this generation of writers think the "where does a human mind end and a computer begin" question to be the most philosophical and deep one you can ask. So they'll shoehorn that shit in wherever they can. You can't have a sci-fi without it anymore, even one with more than enough story to tell like Alien.

Gore was never what made the Alien series interesting. It already had plenty of blood and brutal kill scenes but the show doesn't really capture the true Xenosthetic

>Infinity War was grade-A adventure kino juggling a shitload of separate character groups and making it look easy, while adding a compelling antagonist with high stakes where plot armor was ineffective
>Endgame was a bloated mess with no stakes, no impact, forced melodrama, and the shittiest time-travel asspull I'd seen in years
What the fuck went wrong?

Because it had to have a happy ending. Infinity War was good because Thanos was actually allowed to use his power level.

It ran deeper than that. You can make a movie have a happy ending and also make it real fuckin good, and they just goddamn failed in the dumbest way imaginable.

Thanos had the reality stone for most of the movie. At no point should anyone have remotely been a threat to him, especially when his base self could beat Hulk.

Nerfing Hulk overall was a huge detriment to both films. It was fine for IF because if you hadn't seen Endgame you were expecting they'd bust out the best form of Hulk for the end. Instead we got a basedboy reluctantly tapping on a car. It was fucking embarrassing.

do you just filter out anything with the name you're trying to avoid in the subject field? I've been thinking of doing that as well but feel like I would miss out on stuff if the name could be in other thread names.

I liked Romulus, well better than Prometheus and Covenant at least.
This is a TV series so I was expecting some level of drop in VFX but yeah it's almost like they are actively going for the laughs.

>if there was like 1/2 of the kid robots
Bruh those fucking child robots are the biggest mistake they made. Second episode is so badly paced that you will notice how unintentionally funny those robots are. With such a bad group of actors they never feel like children in adult robotic body, they feel like Down Syndrome patients.
What kind of retard sends a child of extraction misdion, when that child most likely don't even know what extraction means.

Thing is I feel almost sorry for xenomorph. They introduce basically immortal supersoldier synthetics PLUS weapon platform cyborgs, and here we have our lovely bug, who is now hillariously outmatched, crashlanding on Earth while being basically exclusively outer space threat.
