The thrill of drinking at work when you're not supposed to was probably half the fun for them.

Yes. Until you're old, then it fucks your body up and destroys your ability to maintain relationships with people.

It helps me get over my self esteem issues in social situations and I actually socialize when I drink.
Honestly if I enjoyed the taste of alcohol I'd probably be an alcoholic, but it tastes like shit.

No. Drinking causes one to become dumber, so unfunny things become funny;etc.

The first 5 years is the most fun and then it becomes about maintenance and survival even though it is still fun in it's own way.

I tried to drink in Copenhagen and it's definitely not fun. Booze is expensive as fuck.

This is accurate. When you're drinking you forget how good real life really is, and replace it with the best your new lifestyle can offer. This itself degrades to lower highs as time goes on, and you eventually live for the moment you can drink again and get to that 'hilariously surly spiteful crazy person.'
You only realize how limited your emotions and capabilities are/were when you go through the pain of cleansing this 'daemon' and remember how easy it was to be happy and accomplished before drinking.
Removing the cloud of substance abuse is akin to finding God, and remembering your worth and abilities. Confidence, less stress, thicker skin, better looking... everything seems to reset and you look back at your days of drinking as a dark time.
SSRI's and many prescribed pharmaceuticals cause the same cloud and keep you from being your best. I know this all from experience.
The hardest battles are best fought head on, and the victories the sweetest.

Yes. Getting drunk is amazing. Overrated? Is it fuck. These days being drunk is the only time I don't want to kill myself but I'm trying to quit because it was actually making the cycle of depression worse. This is not my life, it's just a fond farewell to a friend

No. Actual drunks just hide at home having the cheapest shit because they will run out of money. They're basically babies with depression, unable to do anything but cling to a bottle, cry, throw up and shit themselves.

Not really. I don't drink to get drunk, I genuinely don't enjoy being drunk in any way. I usually have one or two long drinks every night with a single shot of vodka because I like the drinks and they don't taste the same without alcohol.

Kinda shitty for God to make some shit that eases the pain until it becomes pain itself. This shit creator couldn't make something addictive AND beneficial?

Naw, never got that bad fortunately. Buddy of mine I used to hang out with tried to off himself by drinking was about a week or two from success before he actually got taken in for treatment. It's just the worst trying to deal with people that far gone.
