Let me explain something to you - the "innocent halfwits" just meandering into these subjects while they act humbly deep down they believe they're really deep and insightful. They concede that they don't have all the information of course, but they think their regular simple philosophy on these things is really deep and insighful. When you don't get smacked down in competition against others you can imagine anything you want.
And Joe is this "regular" guy there to lead them into these things, so they believe it and go along with it. They really do think that their philosophy and thinking are smart, that they're penetrating deep into subjects. Elitism is really, really bad sometimes, but this sort of inverse elitism is similarly bad sometimes.
