Where does Calypso's power come from? Is the radiation storms? I always thought he had found Merlin's ring or something like that.

It's inconsistent as fuck from game to game but usually it comes from demons, he's basically Satan's servant on earth. There's one game if I recall correctly Twisted Metal 4 where it indeed comes from a ring and Sweet Tooth steals his ring and becomes the new game master

In Twisted Metal 2 it was because he died, went to Hell, but then eluded demons to avoid being tortured. This impressed Satan enough that he decided to send Calypso back to Earth with a few powers in order to host a tournament that would send more people to Hell (in the games there are a lot of innocent bystanders getting killed) but in order to make it "fair" the winner of the tournament gets their wish granted. This power was meant to be given to one of the demons hunting Calypso, so the demon enters the tournament to get it back.
