Keanu grounds the whole thing. Hopkins and Oldman are going full British theatre chewing scenery like crazy, if you added Depp or Cage they'd just try to match or outdo them and it'd become a full blown camp fest, which it kind of is already

i'll agree with you on the matrix, it's been years since I've seen a scanner darkly so I can't really argue with that one either, john wick 1 is borderline unwatchable imo (the cgi blood is obnoxiously bad, even worse than keanu's acting) and he was barely in neon demon that I remember

He was barely in Neon Demon but he was such a memorable character to me I have to include it in my list. I can definitely see not liking John Wick for several reasons but if you can just appreciate it as a rollercoaster ride Reeve's wooden acting makes him seem like a stoic blank slate for all the action to bounce off of, similar to the action sequences of Matrix. In my opinion
