>gets into the most prestigious (expensive) universities
>in order to become...
>a journalist
This was so fucking dumb. High school drop-outs can do journalism. It's one of the jobs you get into when you fail at everything else in life.
Did the writers just not know?

My guess is Amy Sherman-Palladino was insecure because she wrote measly fiction instead of super real and serious business like journalists do, so she thought that was an admirable career.

As for why Rory was a total failure in every way in the Netflix thing, I have no idea.

1. You quoted the wrong post.
2. I used the hyperbolic phrase "super real and serious" to obviously imply the opposite.

QED: You are a dumb faggot.

Was it just because the show was pre/early internet and journalists were still somewhat respected because of gatekeeping at the major newspapers?

I mean it was already there in the show.
She was a very smart girl, in a way that she could better understand and retain book knowledge than her mother, but in every other regard she was her mother, including being in danger of becoming a teenage mom.
That she would, being left on her own devices and not being tardwrangled by an entire town, do dumb shit, was to be expected.

Today she'd probably be reduced to writing lists for Buzzfeed. No profession has seen such a sharp decline in credibility as journalism has in the online age.

Started watching this 2 days ago on my quest to continue scraping the bottom of the barrel.
They talk annoyingly fast like modern shit. So many characters meant to be obnoxious.
Best joke is the mother only having days of the week underwear going up to Thursday.

Yeah that's all true, and she had an unhealthy friend-like relationship with her one present parent as well. But if you were writing this story over years where you constantly romanticize this town and this lifestyle and make everything revolve around her future, wouldn't you look for a way to break the cycle so any of it matters? It just seemed so fuckin dour.

Journalism was respected before 9/11. It was only after Obama changed the law prohibiting using propaganda internally on Americans in 2012 that CNN became supermarket tabloid trash tier.
It was always propaganda like tv and film of course, people were just more naive.

It was pretty influential on current day show slop. Women, and woman writers especially, love this show.

Forgoing the eternal status quo as a comedy/sitcom show was a new thing. Producers at the time preferred shows where you could air any episode out of order and it still made sense. Of course now in streaming times every show has overarching plots.

They definitely set her up as a lesbian love interest for Rory right?
In Chilton she basically behaves like a female Tristan. They even did that Romeo and Juliet thing, but chickened out on showing a female-on-female kiss, until a few seasons later during that spring break thing.

Journalism is the #1 way that they feed the general population carefully crafted lies to keep them absolutely confused. Hollywood is #2, and there are many Hollywood productions designed specifically to make journalists seem absolutely honorable and upright and without moral or character faults whatsoever. Crack the journalism nut, and the whole shell game falls apart.
