Somebody mentioned this movie to me once, and said Uma Thurman was in the film, and I had never heard of it, and at the time, I watched a crapload of films, since I didnโ€™t have a TV with a receiver, or cable, or the internet.
All I had was a monthly membership at a local video rental store that offered a $30 per month 3 videos at a time, all you can rent offer like Netflix, but without dealing with USPS.

Yes it does, but you're still dead if you die, you just have an inheritor. I remember one henchman killing another henchman because the other one sprained his ankleor something, because "lol you have a clone", and then he comes back and acts slightly miffed, not as a guy who has memories of being murdered by his coworker. Sure, in this instance it works because they are dumbfuck henchmen, but the movie is littered with stuff like this.

Escape Plan is the kind of movie I would describe as "inoffensive" in that you watch it and you don't get angry or frustrated at it, but it's not good either. It's still below even his weaker late 90s output, but you don't feel bad for watching it as long as you're not expecting something really good.

It's likely nostalgia speaking, but shit movies from before felt like they weren't intentionally shit (for the most part) but rather the product of deluded suits pushing shit ideas, eccentric directors not being tard wrangled properly, amateurs biting off more than they could chew, budget mismanagement, etc.
Nowadays it feels deliberate, as if the entire industry decided making movies dogshit in every aspect should be the new standard.

The idea that people are pushing shit now intentionally is retarded, it's just a completely different landscape. Flops in the past just had a handful of things going wrong because in general you still had people involved who were motivated, creative and paid decently, nowadays it's just streaming giants throwing money around at a billion different projects which are all individually given nothing.

Just look at all the projects Ben Shapiro's media company made and how fucking awful they are.
Some projects definitely force trannyism but not all, and plenty of the stuff that doesn't force it is still plenty shit

It's actually quite eye-opening if you look closely at them, those projects are plagued by the exact same lack of motivation, creativity and care that is at the root cause of the vast majority of modern media (probably even worse).
There is a clear industry problem, to do with quality across a wide range of stuff. I hate trannyism in modern productions but it's more a symptom of shitness than a cause, and there is still plenty of awful media out there where tranny stuff doesn't feature at all and it's still completely awful.

I always liked the sixth day. I would say that a movie that meets your criteria would be The last action hero though. Back in the day Arnie was an action hero so a family movie that parodied his own work felt weird but these days, after heยดs done more movies on the field of family comedies and seeing how soulless most kid movies are even that movie feels good. In fact, the whole ticket thing feels pretty magical. I wonder if itยดs because movie theaters are mostly dead now...

Itยดs not purple rose of Cairo but it does have that otherworldly quality found on kid movies like Jumanji, Hook or the first 2 Harry Potter movies.

I avoided Nemesis because creature features aren't my thing but cyberpunk definitely is. What a dilemma.

I now realize I've been confusing Nemesis with Split Second for over a decade. I'll watch Nemesis ASAP. Holy shit.

It's brain drain as more and more qualified people retire/die without knowledge being passed on + companies increasingly minmaxing and realising they don't have to bother trying to make decent stuff when they can all just make garbage and then nobody has any other choice.

Nemesis is such a strong fucking movie. I swear it knew how to use its budget just right because a lot of scenes are literally just characters talking in a Mexican hotel room and yet it completely delivers several times on having cyborgs kill each other, and gruesomely illustrating just how much damage humans that are majority robot by weight would have to do to each other to actually kill each other

That said I absolutely recommend Split Second as well, even if you're only after the cyberpunk. It's probably a spoiler but it's a spoiler that they give away on the VHS cover anyway; 90% of the movie is just Rutger Hauer being an unfathomably based unlicensed Judge Dredd, running roughshod over a ruined flooded city in search of a fucked-up serial killer, only discovering at the end that said serial killer is a spooky rubber suited stuntman. The monster is not the main attraction, Hauer is, and they have that Dredd vibe where you feel like this is a shitty but not particularly unusual day for him and tomorrow he's probably gonna have to deal with something worse.
