>>213786569Passion annoyed a lot of people in Hollywood. Some were looking for an excuse to distance themselves from Mel.
Then Mel insulted <you know who> when he got drunk and got his rant recorded. He broke the rules. It doesn't matter what you think in private or among friends. But publicly you are supposed to follow the company. Mel's mistake gave Hollywood all the excuses they needed to punish and blackball Mel Gibson.
It wasn't a full blackball. But think of it more as a heavy "sanction".
Mel could get "minor roles" so he could keep getting income. And maybe occasionally play villains like in Expendables 3 (because Stallone did Mel a favor). But Mel was NOT allowed to be an A-Lister lead again, or allowed to Direct / Produce major studio big budget movies for a long time. No more Hollywood funded movies like the Patriot, Braveheart, or Lethal Weapon.
They put Mel in the doghouse. For about 10 years (2006 to 2016), Mel was sanctioned by Hollywood. Forced to lose star power.
It's only recently where Hollywood bosses FINALLY allowed Mel out of the doghouse in 2016 and they let him Direct Hacksaw ridge. They figured 10 years of punishment was enough . And that's only AFTER he did an apologize tour for his actions by going to the press and saying what he did was mistake and apologized.
Then he was finally allowed to direct Hacksaw Ridge in 2016.
But yeah. Mel was punished and lost 10 years of his career where he could only play minor roles.
