Everyone else wants to party but Vinny wants to make something of himself. Her mother tells her to find a good husband. She grows up and hears Vinny plans on being a lawyer, she remembers how she had a crush on him when she was a kid. He smooth talks her and there you go.

Imagine putting this much thought into something the writers didnt even give a fuck about. They got Joe Pesci because of his name and what he brought to the role. They got Marisa Tomei because she's hot. Its fiction, pure fantasy that someone invented out of thin air, just like any pointless back story you come up with.
