I don’t think it did a bad job of juggling 3 villains. For starters, films generally have more than one plot going on at a time. In the first film we had the A plot involving Green Goblin, the B plot involving Harry and MJ, and the C plot involving Peter’s photography. The second film was the same thing, this time replace Gobby with Doc Ock. The third film also had the same structure. A plot was sandman. B plot was harry becoming Goblin, and C plot was the black suit arc. When you look at it from this perspective, the 3 villains make sense. Like yeah it sucks that Venom wasn’t the protagonist of his own film, but his existence doesn’t take away from sandman’s plot, and you have to remember these are movies, not cartoons. You only ever have 80 minutes to tell a story and that’s not a lot of time. You have to be efficient with your time, so scenes involving villains are generally always going to feel a little short, whether there’s 1, 2, or 3 of them. Also the chances of getting a fourth film were always slim, so the fact we got to see venom in any capacity at all was cool.
