Too bad the second movie decided to make her a Marvel superhero.

I actually enjoyed both of them. I sat through and watched the entirety of them. Which says a lot these days. All the capeshit etc I'm looking at my phone every 2 minutes because they're so fucking garbage.

What a weird missed opportunity with this "franchise".

All they had to do is pull a Chucky and have her at first act normal for the first act and then go on a killing spree while dancing for the rest of the movie.

How hard can it be?

They could still salvage it in part 3. What if they pull a Toy Story type plot where Cady, now an hotshot super programmer, decides she no longer needs M3GAN so she unimprints from her and goes her own way, seeking fame and stardom. But the M3GAN unit's programming is not designed to be its own separate individual. So now, without purpose or directive, her programming goes haywire and starts seeking out Cady like some yandere, trying to get back in her life.

Part 2 made about the same in its entire run as the first did in its opening weekend.

Ambition exceeding reach, they clearly wanted to "expand the cinematic universe" instead of lowering themselves to knocking a new M3GAN every year.
The draw is having a great, expressive design for M3gan with an incredible performance by the voice actress, everything else is merely serviceable low-budget filmmaking. The stakeholders obviously didn't recognise that and misconstrued their luck as talent.

Part two seemed like a family movie with humour geared to silent gen boomers. Hence, I doubt the vast majority of people understood what the heck was being referenced and why it was funny. It sounds crazy to me but none of my friends knew who Steven Seagal was nor ever had a printer at home, so they wouldnโ€™t have known what xerox was. I enjoyed it a lot and I hope if they make a third theyโ€™d strive forward without any creative restraint.
