What did you guys think of this show? I watched season 1 when it aired but never actually got around to season 2 or 3.
I think I remember people saying Season 2 was a huge filter.
it became too cringe and had too much dancing. I just wanted him to fight the bad guy or something
I thought it was garbage with terrible acting and writing but clearly /tv/ seems to love it.
Season 1 was good. Considering that it's technically Marvel capeshit it's fantastic.
The other Seasons degrade in quality.
It had the same fart-sniffing, self-indulgent vibe that Hannibal season 3 had. Hawley thinks he's a very, very smart person when in reality he has nothing interesting to say at all thematically. I dropped it after a while.
>>213796488Man, itโs a shame that Bryan Fuller is a hawty gay pain in the ass who is apparently impossible to work with. He has a very interesting style in his works Iโd like to see more of, but every single fucking thing he has worked on since that has fallen apart.
>>213796624If you judge solely from his works, it appears Hannibal season 3 is when his ego just got completely out of control. American Gods is like that season but as an entire show. Just annoying, drawn out, slow mo visuals. Insufferable "dreamlike" scenes that last for 10 minutes too long, vagueness masquerading as depth and subtlety. He's turned into a complete fucking hack. Sad, many such cases.
>>213796322The dancing scenes ARE the fighting, it's usually a battle of minds between the characters. That's what makes the show so surreal and unique.
>>213796297 (OP)I just remember the villain being kino and the Asian time travel girl in season 3 being cute
Pretty decent for a Marvel series.
>>213799361built and SCANNED by Big Kojima Productions....
>>213799596How long until Jenna gets SCANNED?
normal capeshit but a schizo guy listening to pink floyd
S1 is the best overall, but S2 and S3 have some of the greatest sequences and themes, and since it's all one continuous storyline it's kind of pointless to even think of them as individual seasons.
My biggest issue with the series is the same with pretty much all X-Men media: too many pointless/uninteresting jobbers played by bad actors.
In Legion's case it's extremely limited, with Kerry (Amber Midthunder) being the only real outlier. Ptonomy (Jeremie Harris) is not bad because at least the actor can actually deliver his lines well, as stupid as they are, and they are. The aforementioned are the worst written and ultimately pointless and should've been cut to allow more time for characters like Cary (Bill Irwin) and Clark (Hamish Linklater) to shine.
Oh well. Nothing's ever perfect, yeah? A lot of the show still lives rent free in my head though. Solid 8/10 with a good dozen or so 10/10 sequences throughout its entire run.

>>213796297 (OP)I've tried to watch this show a few times and never made it all the way through.
>>213801233The wait was worth it
>>213801756its ok zoomerbro, you should watch rick and morty while doomscrolling instagram posts, seems more your speed
>>213801828Not a zoomer and I don't doomscroll. I have no idea why but I have forgotten or lost interest with it twice. Seems like a blindspot because I have never really had this issue before. Thought about going back to it a few times. I'd fuck Aubrey Plaza.
I think everyone has that one show they kind of like but for whatever reason fall out of it and don't finish it.
>>213799903I hope they scanned and got into every nook and cranny
>>213801931it also happened to me
it promises too much but doesn't deliver, the actual meat of the show is not unique like its exterior sells it
>Show is called Lee John
>Main character's name is David
It was the ONLY GOOD show marvel produced since the 1990s because it wasn't capshit marvel, it was surrealism and Scanners on steroids; and everyone here is wrong.
>>213796297 (OP)>Season 2 was a huge filter.it was because it was a complete nosedive
its like one of those JPRGs where they go "hey so you're this person half the way through the game but... SURPRISE! now you main this person the rest of the game"
when you swap out the main character you lose your audience
also the show tried to gaslight us into not like David because he >did naughty thing out of his control
>>213801982>it promises too much but doesn't deliver, the actual meat of the show is not unique like its exterior sells itwell way to put it
>>213796297 (OP)Season 1 is brilliant
Season 2 is oddball
Season 3 is woke to the point where it doesn't even make sense
>>213799903she was so fucking hot in that game I could barely contain myself. her letting Sam into her shelter and getting fucked raw by him is canon.
>>213804073This. Watch Season 1 and put it down
Interesting concept. Guy with the power to read minds doesn't know what the fuck is going on so he thinks he has schizophrenia. Same problem that most X-Men shows have. No real mutants. No Beasts, Nightcrawlers, Mystiques. Everyone is a human passing mutant that either shoots lasers or has a mental power.
>>213806649No more like Guy who can read minds and has schizophrenia
First season had some issues but had a lot of strengths as well, great presentation, representation of nightmares and fears, some good performances. Overall good quality television.
Second season was too bloated and too stupid. One great actor added to the cast, everyone else gets shafted, the writing for every character shits the bed, some like the blonde girl are absolutely ruined while other formerly important characters are almost nonexistent. Too much time wasted on nonsense (thanks for all the "intro to philosophy" monologues, jon hamm). The ending is absolutely retarded, most retarded part is that there's an entire episode in the middle of the season that shows how retarded the mindset everyone has at the end toward david was, making it seem like maybe we're meant to see it as retarded and that everyone is actually being mindcontrolled by the psychopath villain who joined the team but then season 3 happens and it turns out that no, the writers really are that dumb.
Third season is dogshit. Only okay thing about it is that main actor guy got to show a little more range than in the preceding season, but everything else is shit. Some say the ending was smarter or more original than having some big fight as is the norm for capeslop, but them just shooting lasers at eachother until the villain (or better yet, everyone) dies would've been better.
>>213804073>Season 3 is woke to the point where it doesn't even make senseThey really wanted to make David into the bad guy and were willing to throw logic and reason out the window to make it happen
>he ACKTUALLY raped Syd>the scene in season two were we show the Shadow King planting his roaches in everyone? hmmโฆ that never happened chud!>Syd is the hero of season 3!>What about that time she used her power to turn into her mom and have sex with her stepfather and then she turned back into her underage self mid fuck and he went to jail for being a pedo? hmmโฆ addressing that is not important for the story
>>213808051the bad guy manipulates the love interest into believing the good guy is the bad guy and gets the bad guy to kill himself by erasing himself from history so the bad guy won't have to worry about him ever again.
>>213808051At one point she cuts David's head off, then he time travels to before it happened and tells her about it, she gives him a lecture about how "men are afraid of being laughed at, women are afraid of being killed". Bitch you literally just killed him, you're not the victim!
its a show that requires you to pretty much hold all of it in your head at the same time to really understand. so if all you can process is the current scene and the directly preceding scene, you're going to have a bad time. especially since the antagonist is consistently playing 5D chess while the protagonist is only reacting to whats directly in front of him.
>>213796297 (OP)I appreciate that they used sets, props, editing, and simple compositing for super powers rather than just CGing everything. I mean they kinda had to for the budget but it worked. Time travel being a hallway, teleporting being clear tubes between locations that you crawl through. The time gremlins using stop motion. Being out of time represented by photography and stop motion. The writing wasn't particularly special but the experimentation with visually representing stuff was good.
Better than the other two X-Men shows premiering at the time. Gifted and InHumans
Not that it's a high bar, but it's easily the best capeshit show
>>213797672no
dancing is for theatre fags
their mistake is thinking normal people want cringe dancing
cringe dancing only works for small theatres, or celebrities on dance competitions
>>213796297 (OP)S1 weakest point is Aubrey Plaza. She gets the best material and draggs it to her level. And I like Aubrey Plaza
S2 and S3 are as good as they could possibly be considering they had a lower budget
>>213808949don't think you were the target audience when they made a show about mental illness
>characters you're slowly turning into

>>213808580I also really enjoyed these kinda details.
Add in the title card always changing
>>213797672>battle of minds between the characters. This trope should be abandoned altogether because filmmakers (and not only) completely fail to execute it. The end result either looks lame, or IS conceptually lame.
>>213808051>They really wanted to make David into the bad guyHe literally wants to go back in time and fix everything. How is he the bad guy??
>>213811001because the bad guy convinced everyone he's the bad guy
>>213811051Farouk literally helps David, are you on crack?
>>213811078>bad guys aren't allowed to help the good guys
Just watched it all the other day. Great premise and ambition, clearly hampered by having no budget. Schizo superhero is a great gimmick. But some of it is absolutely awful. Most glaring are the cast, who are all pretty uniformly terrible. Aubrey Plaza is particular is fucking CRINGE, just chewing the scenery. Jermaine Clement, like what the fuck? Inexplicable casting couch decision making. If you put half decent actors in this show, itโd be kino
>>213811153So you accept that David was a good guy?
>>213796685The first half of American Gods season 1 was okay because it was reasonably faithful to the books. The second half was were Fuller got cocky and I saw the writing was on the wall for it.
Iโm not surprised the second season was utter ass even without him, even if it had a nice robot tentacle sex scene.
>the main character of this series that is based on an x-men villain... IS THE BAD GUY?????
>show and comic are different???
