Thunderball is widely regarded as the best James Bond film, while many savants including Fleming himself prefer From Russia With Love.
Where does /tv/ stand?
>>213797715 (OP)Thunderball is not widely regarded as the best, but it is my personal favorite.
>>213798135Name 1 person besides (You) who regards it this way.
>>213798135I always heard it was Goldfinger.
pretty sure goldeneye is the most universally loved bond film
>>213797715 (OP)Thunderball is fucking trash. The underwater scenes are dogshit.
When the Bond series directly adapts Fleming's works, the resulting film usually comes out pretty good because Broccoli and Co usually can't create an original script for their life.
His daughter is the same.
>>213798455>When the Bond series directly adapts Fleming's works, the resulting film usually comes out pretty good because Broccoli and Co usually can't create an original script for their life. That's funny because Thunderball screenplay came first and Flemming adapted it into a book later on. Later the screenwriter sued Flemming and co and won. Blofeld was introduced in Thunderball so the movies wrote him out due to this with Roger Moore killing him off at the start of a movie. Later on a non EON James Bond film was produced that was a remake of Thunderball called Never Say Never Again (1983) with Sean Connery back as Bond even though Roger Moore was currently the EON Bond. The title was a reference to Sean Connery saying he would never play Bond again. They tried remaking Thunderball a third time with Timothy Dalton but this fell through. And they only got the rights back for Blofeld to make the Daniel Craig film Spectre, hence why we had Quantum rather than Spectre in the earlier Craig films.
>>213798427Yes, because moving in three dimensions is challenging for a smooth-brain, like you.
I do admit it went on for like 5 minutes too long.
>>213797715 (OP)I'm not sure, really
I was very impressed by casino royale, though most of it is pretty boring
as a kid I really liked the brosnan movies, but they're almost unwatchable for me today
a few years ago I saw diamonds are forever and it was a lot better than I remember, but I tried watching a few other old ones and they didnt work for me
So I'll say
>Diamonds are forever
>>213797715 (OP)Its either Goldeneye or Goldfinger
I have all of the early Bond films on DVD (Sean Connery and Roger Moore) and my favorites are The Spy Who Loved Me and The Man with the Golden Gun.
>>213797715 (OP)Not it's fucking not, it's shit
>>213797715 (OP)Thunderball is:
>#6 according to RT critic meter (top 3: Goldfinger, From Russia with Love, Dr. No)>#9 according to RT audience score (top 3: Casino Royale, Goldfinger, No Time to Die)>#9 according to IMDB score (top 3: Casino Royale, Skyfall, Goldfinger)>#12 according to Letterboxd (top 3: Casino Royale, Skyfall, Goldfinger)>#10 according to Metacritic (top 3: Goldfinger, From Russia with Love, Skyfall)Goldfinger and Casino Royale are widely regarded as the best, followed by Skyfall and From Russia with Love. The most shocking thing is how much everyone loves No Time to Die, it ranks between #3-#7 according to every metric listed and I thought it was barely any better than trash Spectre
I've always been partial to The Living Daylights
>Great opening on Gibraltar and the other one with the Cello player.
>Best theme song.
>Cute Bond girl.
>Fun plot beats.
>Fun henchman.
Weakest part is probably the main villains and the ending. But solid stuff. Always thought it was a shame that the legal issues stopped more Dalton movies and when it was done he felt too much time had passed and they recasted.
I watched Goldfinger and From Russia with Love
recently and it was such a garbage.
On Her Majesty's Secret Service was ok.
>>213799054Yes but you're a known faggot
>>213797715 (OP)No itโs not. FRWL is regarded as the best Bond movie. Every actor after Connery who auditions has to do the scene where Bond meets Tatiana Romanova. I really want to see Dalton doing the audition for this scene
>>213799054A brown man or an overweight female wrote this
>>213798965I'm surprised Goldeneye doesn't rank higher on the lists
Itโs funny whole reason why Bond took off is because JFK loved Bond. FRWL was one of his favorite books and why made the second one off of it. He had a screening of the movie at the White House shortly before he was killed
>must watch
FRWL
Goldfinger
Thunderball
YOLT
OHMSS
TSWLM
Goldeneye
>should watch
Dr. No
Diamonds Are Forever
Live and Let Die
The Living Daylights
Tomorrow Never Dies
Casino Royale
>could watch
For Your Eyes Only
License to Kill
>will watch if required
The Man with the Golden Gun
Moonraker
Octopussy
A View to a Kill
The World is Not Enough
>turn it off
Quantum of Solace
Skyfall
Spectre
>>213797715 (OP)for me it's From Russia > YOLT > Goldfinger > Dr No = Thunderball > Diamonds Are Forever.
both Dr No and Thunderball have the same fate of becoming boring as sin at a point and never picking it back up again. Connery is so tired and low-energy in Diamonds that it ruins everything.
The rest is pretty good
>>213799471I like them all, simple as.
>>213799471good list. casino royale wasn't very faithful to the books but it was still a decent flick
>>213799672It's miles above the first version
>>213799427It's got Connery, it's canon.
The first 4 Moores (Live and Let Die, The Man With The Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker) are peak Bond. Connery is overrated, but not as overrated as Brosnan.
>>213799775Moonraker has pretty much the exact same plot as Spy Who Loved Me only underwater is replaced by space.
>>213797715 (OP)Even the worst connery bond movie is better than the best craig bond movie, let that sink in
>>213797715 (OP)Most people say Goldfinger is the best Bond film, especially regarding Connery, but a lot of that is just them saying 'common wisdom' answer without having any real reason or opinion. Do not get me wrong, I do not think Goldfinger is bad nor am I saying for many it is not their favourite or what they think it is the best, what I am saying is a lot of people who do say Goldfinger are not Bond fans who have actual strong opinions or arguments. The other answers a lot of people are inclined to give are either GoldenEye in part due to their age or, due to lack of familiarity and recency bias, maybe one of the Craig films. The actual best Connery Bond film is FRWL, with most personnel favourite being YOLT. The best Bond film is TSWLM. The best Bond is Dalton.
>must watch
From Russia, With Love - The perfect 007 adventure, at its heart it's about being both cheeky and suspenseful and it manages to do both perfectly. Absolute control of tone, they never really manage to do this again THIS well.
Casino Royale - perfect movie, only time the reboot really works
OHMSS - as "elevated art" as Bond can get, incredible thriller
Goldeneye - a classic. Is missing some of the stuff I watch Bond for (I prefer TND), but as good as it gets
>good
You Only Live Twice - perfect execution of the "for fun", camp aspects of Bond. To me on one end it's FRwL, on the other it's YOLT, everything else is in between.
The Spy Who Loved Me - the Bond film that understands these are comedies at heart.
Tomorrow Never Dies - TSWLM but better
Skyfall - Bond tries Nolan's Batman and it works, it just might have ruined the franchise forever tho
Licence to Kill - Dalton in the worst hair of all time on a pretty solid thriller. My fav Bond girl ever.
Goldfinger - just solid
>mid-tier
Moonraker - Gilbert goes too far in the camp and the comedy, not for the faint of heart, made to be every child's favourite. Dr Goodhead is the most stunning woman of all time
The Living Daylights - Really good when it's a cold eurothriller, pretty boring when it's in the sand.
For Your Eyes Only - Very underrated, has some of the best action in the series but it also gets really boring. Weird Tatcher cameo lmfao
Quantum of Solace - destroyed in editing, could have been Craig's one fun movie
>shit
Spectre - A MESS. Follows the worst instincts of Skyfall.
No Time to Die - Boring and bad
The World is not Enough - has a lot of interesting ideas, doesn't pull them off well
Thunderball - boring as sin
Octopussy - I have a soft spot for it but it's shit
Dr No - Boring as sin
Diamonds are Forever - Boring
The Man with the Golden Gun - Boring
Die Another Day - Embarrassing but has things that work. It's like if everything went wrong in a Gilbert movie.
A View to a Kill - boring.
>>213800351Live and Let Die is the best Bond comedy
>>213799471Bump DAF down a tier, swap TND with TWINE, and I basically agree.
>>213799402Same, it usually ranks pretty high, but not as hight as I thought.
It places in the 6-10 range mostly
>>213800351Hmmm, not a bad list.
>SkyfallSkyfall needs moving to its own tier though. It's a family soap opera which makes 0 sense.
>NTTDI was drunk, but I remember No Time to Die actually being good, kek. Left VERY confused though.
>QoSWhat actually happened here? Remember nothing, needs moving down.
>>213801091It's up there with North by Northwwest as the spy thrillers which were too good for the franchise.
>>213797715 (OP)>Fleming himself prefer From Russia With Lovehe only saw two
two and a half, if they let him see how Goldfinger was coming along
and I disagree with him. I like Dr. No over FRWL. Ken Adams set design trumps gritty spy story for me.
>>213801107It's a 6/10 spy flick, comparing it to classic Hitchcock is absurd
>>213797958>Goldfinger was released in 1964>Donald Trump was born in 1946>This would mean Donald Trump was 16 years old when Goldfinger came out in theatersWhat are the odds that a teenage Donald Trump saw Auric Goldfinger, said "wow, he's literally me", and decided to make that character his new personality? Is he one of us?
>>213801069>>NTTD>I was drunk, but I remember No Time to Die actually being good, kek. Left VERY confused though. You probably only remembered the Cuba sequence.
>>213800014and both of those rip of You Only Live Twice
Lewis Gilbert only knew how to make one kind of Bond movie, and it was great all three times.
I used to be a Casino Royal maxxer but I feel like it hasn't aged as well as it did in memory.
