>>213811106 (OP)I still don't know if the autistic acting in his films is accidental or done in purpose.
>>213811144The first half was extremely fun. But when Shyamalan's daughter calls the police on The Butcher at his home the movie immediately nosedives because Shyamalan just kinda gets lazy? He doesn't come up with any fun ways for Butcher to escape and just has him randomly spawn outside of everyone's vision. Like that scene in the limousine is retarded and not in a fun way, it's just eye rolling. He could have made some insane shit with Butcher having tunnels between those empty homes he was using or something, there was a moment where it felt Shyamalan will go that way but he really didn't. It was lazy. There were no twists really aside from ridiculous and then boring ways Butcher kept escaping. The wife being the one to tip Butcher off to the police originally is somewhat of a twist I guess but it doesn't really matter? It's just an explanation, it wasn't really a surprise.
The cinematography was good, but again it was mostly really good in the first half and then the second half is okay but nothing really special. It's the cinematographer of Luca Guadagnino (and also Apichatpong Weerasethakul, that's a crazy career, from Thai arthouse to Shyamalan) so obviously he is gonna make the movie pretty, but here Shyamalan just got so lazy even the cinematographer got bored.
Only thing I was surprised in the end is by the acting at the pie scene. Suddenly the signature autismo acting is gone and Alison Pill is putting on a performance like she is trying to get an Oscar. It was weird.
