In Jororowsky's Dune film, the ending of the story was re-written so Paul becomes an unironic savior figure, the cynical angle of the original story is removed. He's killed by the Emperor, but his death makes him martyr, and Paul's death induces a psychic awakening across the galaxy. He brings spiritual enlightenment to the galaxy, and this is done in a sequence which was meant to break the fourth wall: to have audiences crying "I am Muad'Dib!!" along with the characters on screen. Echoing "I am Spartacus" and foreshadowing George Lucas' "May the Force be with you"
I believe this was potentially seen as politically threatening irl/rabble-rousing.
If anyone could have forced enlightenment en-masse in the populace, it would have been Jodorowsky
