I don't watch either of their movies, but in terms of their sketch comedy? WKUK was on an entirely different level than Key and Peele. Continental Breakfast isn't fit to shampoo the balls of heckler Abe Lincoln.

Cregger is literally emulating Peele. Same """high concept""" YOU WON'T GUESS WHAT THIS FILM IS ABOUT premises. Same shit with inserting some political topic into the film (Barbarian being about how muh men are rapists, Weapons trying to juggle a bunch of vague shit about community trauma, school shootings, whatever). Same shit where he plays with the structure of the film (well with Peele it's mostly Nope with the film having a whole seemingly unrelated flashback chapter). Even the cinematography is similar, Cregger does the same type of panning shots and rapid camera turns as Peele.
They also have an overall similar approach where the films are neither Blumhouse slop nor are they really "A24 slowburns" but something in-between. There are jumpscares but few, the pacing is more of a regular thriller which means it's not ADHD shit, but it's not Eggers' The VVitch either. They also both have comedy elements in their films, but again not in a some typical manner where the whole film is a joke or where it's super campy like with Sam Raimi, it's more like incidental humour where certain things are just funny in an otherwise realistic setting. Like the hypnotized junkie constantly getting back up or old lady running from a bunch of crazed kids in Weapons, or the monster being a massive jellyfish / sand dollar looking thing in Nope, which is both creepily uncanny like some cryptid or Lovecraft creature but also kinda silly.
